*Salaries delayed are not just numbers postponed. They are lives paused.* More than 5,000 teachers and a score of other public servants, are still waiting for their January salaries. Not because they did not work. Not because they vanished from their posts. But because of “errors” from CAGD’s new Validation Portal, a system that was clearly rushed into existence, rolled out without adequate testing, and imposed without prior training for validators. Predictably, when the system failed, the blame found its way to the most convenient place. CAGD insists, again, that the non-payment is linked to an auditing headcount conducted last year. A familiar explanation. A safe one. Unfortunately, also one that does not align with the lived reality of thousands of teachers who were validated, verified, and cleared long ago, yet still cannot access salaries they have already earned. And where are the voices that should be loudest right now? The very teachers’ unions and associations that deduct dues religiously from these same salaries, dues meant to secure welfare, protection, and advocacy in moments exactly like this, have chosen an impressive silence. Or worse, they issue statements that only repeat what teachers already know, carefully avoiding the harder task of demanding accountability, timelines, and concrete solutions. As usual, because it is teachers, the script remains unchanged: No official communique that actually explains what is going on. No assurances that anyone is actively fixing the problem. No timeline, because certainty, apparently, is a luxury. Instead, teachers are handed the national survival kit, hope. Hope that: The money eventually comes. You are not asked to travel back and forth across districts to “revalidate” something that was already validated. You are not quietly dropped again and told to “wait for the next cycle.” You somehow continue teaching, smiling, and showing up unpaid, because the children are watching. Yes, they are watching. They are watching a system that demands excellence from teachers but offers bureaucratic excuses in return. They are watching professionals treated as line items, not human beings with rent, loans, families, and dignity. This is not just a payroll issue. It is a total systematic failure. A planning failure. And increasingly, a trust crisis. This is an everyone problem.
