🌫 We are under attack - Fog of War Hello Nodes Team, The most exciting part of the Battle of Nodes event, its "Attack" phase, is already producing interesting results. If your nodes suddenly have 0 peers, it's because the fog of war is making them lose touch with their comrades and feeling the despair of abandonment. Romantic descriptions aside, the attack we're groing through at the moment is known as an "eclipse" attack, where nodes are subjected to a "distributed denial of service" attack until they're forced to drop connections and make new ones. When they do that, they are "surrounded" by a bunch of fake addresses indicating peers which in fact are... nothing. These nodes will thus become isolated and blockchain integrity will get rekt as they disappear from the network & consensus map one by one. "Blockchain is so complex it's beyond the ability of the single node to comprehend all the variables. Their judgment, their understanding, are not adequate. Which is exactly what Battle of Nodes is about. While we're in a cease fire, let's show off our setups a bit and rate VPS providers. 💪 This challenge is about vanity and bling bling. PC & other "maker" culture enthusiasts surely are familiar with the "Rate my setup" threads. So we're doing a "Rate my node". The goal is to get the chance to show off, have some fun, give others a glance into how you operate your Elrond nodes and get a chance to learn about new tools, cool tricks and better practices. 👉 Please do: write a short Medium article describing your node(s): type of Hardware or VPS provider, configuration, type of OS, tools used to install, monitor and update them. 🚀 Nuclear Launch Detected Hello Nodes Team, As you can see from the title, we got hit so hard our sense of time is discombobulated. Shards were rekt, memory was overflowing, the blockchain was in shambles and I've never seen happier devs in my life. Normal people would be angry for their product being messed with, but our devs are happy to get even more problems to solve. 🤷‍♂️ The attack stopped and the blockchain recovered. 📣 Out with the old, in with the new Hello Nodes Team! After what surely felt like a welcome breather for some, we're back. We had to do the payouts and subsequent challenges. We were able to solve all of them fairly. Every fixable issue was dealt with care and solved fairly. Some unfortunate situations existed, but I am proud to say the Battle of Nodes concluded succesfully. 🙏 We received and dealt with a lot of good feedback from everyone. Guys, it's overwhelming to see the amount of messages. Grateful, supportive, critical, suggestions - every bit of energy you guys spend on shar(d)ing your thoughts about Elrond with us is a boost of energy and source of ideas to improve further. 💃 Let's start this dance, shall we? 💰 Calculations done, risks ahead Hello Nodes Team, Calculations for the prizes are finally done. It took a lot of carefully looking at everything and making sure that all is fine. We solved a few score challenges, some KYC issues and other delicate stuff that required a lot of attention. But it's past midnight and we're tired so we face the risk of some errors. 🤑 Due to a mix of KYC, uptime & eligibility, the total number of eligible nodes is ~700, instead of 803. So more money overall ⏱ It is past midnight over here. To mitigate the risks of programmatically sending out money to wrong addresses, we have made the decision to make the payments early tomorrow 😃 This is still valid: We promised to pay the $USD equivalent in ERD at the last 7 days moving average as recorded by Binance (ERD/USD on Binance -> MA (7,close,0) ) for 2019 - 12 - 08. That means $0.00221824 per ERD. 📊 Leaderboards update! Hello Nodes Team, The long awaited update of the scores is done, go check it out (link) ⏱ Scores are updated until 22 November 14:00 UTC (end of Round 1 Phase 2) ⏳ Final scores will be processed over the weekend (official end is 06 December 23:59 UTC) and published early on Monday 🎖 Mission #5 scores were normalized to decrease the leaderboard jumps from 600 spots to max 200-ish 🤔 Why? Raw scores caused leaderboard shifts of 600 positions in some cases, it was game breaking. Sorry, we're not game designers, but we're fair, so we normalized the results 🧐 How: We decreased the overall Mission score value from 50% per day to 25% per day, so from a total of 20.000 points per node to just 10.000. We applied a cubic root to smoothen the differences. Logarithms are nicer, but our core devs are busy, so we had the old man calculate them by hand instead 🧮 Wanna have a look at our internal score sheets? Here you go (link) 🤬 "Changing the rules of the game is wrong!" - yes, it is! But the context is different than our plans. We wanted this week to be a high TPS environment that would even the playing field, but didn't get that. Revisit this post (link) please!
