I used to imagine this moment. Now I’m living it. This can happen for you too if you change your self-story!!

The moment I started lying to myself… everything changed.
(And no, it’s not what you think.)
I told myself I was a global speaker.
I wasn’t.
No international clients.
No big audiences.
No standing ovations or sold-out books.
But I imagined it.
Me, on global stages.
Speaking to thousands.
People lining up for photos.
Being quoted on social media.
Having my books fly off the shelves.
It wasn’t real.
Not yet.
But I told myself that story anyway—every single day.
⸻
Fast forward to August this year.
I was invited to speak at MDRT Global.
10,000 people in the audience.
Standing ovation.
People took photos, asked for quotes, sent DMs saying I changed their life.
Everything I had once “lied” about… came true.
⸻
Steven Bartlett talks about this in Law 7: Never Compromise Your Self-Story from his book 33 Laws of Business and Life.
He shared a study about a group of Black students.
Half were asked to state their race before an exam.
The other half were not.
The ones who were reminded of their race performed worse.
Why?
Because of a subconscious story they had internalised:
“People like me don’t do well.”
That story became their reality.
⸻
So here’s the truth:
We all have stories we tell ourselves.
Some make us small.
Some make us powerful.
I chose to tell myself a powerful one even before it was true.
And that changed everything.
⸻
If you’re not where you want to be yet, maybe the problem isn’t your lack of talent or luck.
Maybe it’s your story.
Tell a better one.
Say it until you believe it.
Believe it until you live it.
And one day, you’ll look up and realise…
It wasn’t a lie.
It was a preview.

Typing this while waiting for a car to get home and hang out with mum and Titan (my dog) on a Monday afternoon.
Being able to work wherever and whenever I want has always been a dream and now it’s my reality. That is something I should be grateful for!
What’s one aspect of your life that used to be a dream but now is your reality?

Steven Bartlett flew first class and felt nothing. I flew business class and realised I was no better 😂
First time I got on a business class flight, I was buzzing. Snapped a ton of pics. Read the menu cover to cover. Watched movies. Ate everything. Could not stop smiling.
Fast forward to now. I am in another business class seat. Laptop out. Typing like mad. Ignored the food.
Got annoyed when the crew told me to stow my laptop. Did not even look out the window once.
Then I glanced across the aisle. Saw someone else smiling, snapping photos, soaking it in. Just like I did back then.
And I felt quietly ashamed. How did this stop feeling special?
Then last Friday, I met Steven Bartlett in Singapore.
He shared a story about how he used to be excited about flying first class. Now it is just a seat.
And then he said something that stuck:
Happiness is when your reality matches your expectations.
That’s when I realise that I stopped being happy because I kept raising the bar, but forgot to raise my gratitude along with it.
Truth is, I am living what used to be my dream:
Freedom
A business I own
A team I love
Speaking on global stages
Four hundred thousand people who follow my work
And yet, I let comparison, deadlines and the next big goal steal the joy.
So here is a gentle reminder, for you and for me.
If life looks like what you once prayed for, feel it. Be proud. Be thankful. Smile again.
You are not behind. You are just not noticing how far you have come!

So last Friday I had the privilege to meet Steven Bartlett in person, the man behind the world famous podcast Diary of a CEO and in the coming week I’ll unpack the insights I’ve gained from him. First one coming up 👇🏻
