We would like to share with you that the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) launched its much-anticipated 2024 Medical Student Essay Competition, a WPA Presidential initiative with the support of the United Nations Secretariat – Department of Economic and Social Affairs, Division for Sustainable Development Goals.
The WPA hopes this challenge will inspire medical students to explore innovative approaches and solutions that align with the UN's comprehensive set of goals for sustainable development.
Medical students worldwide are invited to submit an essay of 3000 words or less by May 15 on this year's theme of "Improving Mental Health in the Global World Using the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)."
All Finalists and the full text of their essays will be showcased on the WPA website, spotlighting both the authors and their ideas, and the winning essay will also be translated into all six World Health Organization (WHO) official languages. Moreover, the winner will be acknowledged at the 24th World Congress of Psychiatry in Mexico City (WCP 2024). To facilitate their participation in the congress, their registration fee will be waived and a Travel Award of up to $1500 USD will be granted to cover travel and accommodation expenses.

Apart from the World Health Day celebration that is happening in the morning, there will also be a Futures of Health Foresight workshop taking place at 13:00 – 15:00 on the same day. The workshop is an opportunity to seek WHO partners’ perspectives on future health scenarios, which will be used to develop the “WHO Future of Health Museum” exhibit. Expected to launch at the WHO Regional Committee for the Western Pacific, the exhibit will offer an immersive look at WHO's legacy and a forward look into the future of global health.

International Tropical Medicine Summer School is an annual summer school event focusing on tropical medicine and is a prestigious program for medical schools from around the world to join. The aims of the summer school are to broaden the student’s knowledge of emerging tropical medicine diseases, to be able to perform physical examinations, laboratory findings, diagnosis, and treatments in the modified Problem-Based Learning (PBL) system.
ITMSS appears to fill a variety of curiosity toward tropical medicine. Here, we provide a variety of tropical medicine topics such as TBC, malaria, and dengue fever. After hours of learning, we also offer you an experience to learn about the rich history of Yogyakarta, a bunch of Yogyakarta’s culture, and a lot more to discover throughout our non-educational social program. Participants will also have across-culture experience during our International Night to be engaged with other medical students around the globe.
