Not only recently from the FID, the price of🔠🔠🔠🔠 Spot has been falling 📉 frrom its 2026 all-time high of roughly $5,589 hit in late January. That's a decline of about 22% from the peak (Read more 👉Reference 1).
Recently, gold has been highly volatile:
- After its January record high, the metal entered a sharp pullback (Read more 👉Reference 1).
- It saw a strong rally in August before falling again (Read more 👉Reference 1).
- On September 23, gold fell 2.10% to around $4,279
- By early September 28 trading, gold fell below $4,200, dropping to around $4,170 (Read more 👉Reference 1).
- Year-to-date, gold has gained just about 1.1% despite a 16.5% gain over the past 12 months (Read more 👉Reference 1).
📉Why Gold Dropped
Several FUNDAMENTAL factors are pushing prices down🔽 simultaneously:
1. Higher interest rate expectations — The Federal Reserve, under Chair Kevin Warsh, adopted a more hawkish stance, including a 25 basis point rate hike in September. Higher rates make gold less attractive since it pays no interest.
2. Stronger US dollar💰— A stronger dollar makes gold more expensive for international buyers, reducing demand.
3. Rising Treasury yields — Higher bond yields increase the opportunity cost of holding a non-yielding asset like gold.
4. Oil prices reigniting inflation concerns — Rising energy prices have led markets to price in a meaningful probability of another Fed rate increase, further pressuring gold.
5. Profit-taking — After the historic rally into January, investors took profits, contributing to the overall correction.
