Easter Vigil The Easter Vigil is known as the “Mother of all Vigils”. As we wait upon the Lord, Jesus is faithful to His promises and has truly won the victory over sin and death in our lives by His resurrection. The Easter Vigil usually begins outside the church in darkness. The darkness highlights that we are living in darkness because Jesus, the Light of the World, is dead. The Easter Vigil then starts with the Service of Light where the paschal candle is lit and spread to the congregation. This shows us how the Light of Christ overcomes darkness. We then proceed to the Liturgy of the Word which consists of 7 readings from the old testament and 2 readings from the new testament taking us through God’s intervention in salvation history. After which, there is the Liturgy of Baptism to welcome the cathecumens into the Church and to celebrate their new life in Jesus as well as renew our baptismal vows. Lastly, the Liturgy of the Eucharist is to celebrate how the resurrected Jesus makes himself present in the Eucharist. Invitation: Attend the Easter Vigil mass this evening and invite Jesus into the areas of darkness in our lives. Pray for the grace to allow the Light of Christ to illumine and transform those areas of darkness.
