#BeOpenDESIGN Paris-based designer Flora Koel proposes “renting” sand for your day on the beach and leaving it where it is supposed to be when you go home. She has developed a collection of sandbags that are used as beach poufs - filling up with the surrounding sand, they take shape in situ. Made from upcycled plastic from boats, yacht tarpaulins, and seat belts, the three different seats can be easily transported when empty. The O and the A designs fit comfortably into the L, which is conceived to carry the other two to any suitable location, where they are made full, providing a comfortable surface to sit, or lean on next to the sea. #BeOpenARCH Bornstein Lyckefors Arkitekter, a Swedish based architectural office, has conceived a monument of partying, which adopts a tent-like shape and aims to house large reception halls, secret rooms, as well as an archive of party ephemera. The architectural manifestation of a party usually takes the form of temporary structures, such as gazebos, marquees and pavilions. However, the monument, imagined to settle within Gothenburg, Sweden, emerges as a volume with a more robust and permanent character. The monument of partying is presented at the Röhsska museum among several other speculative conceptualizations, which explore imaginative visions for one of the most talked-about spaces in the city.

#BeOpenDESIGN Hiplant by Triple L is a six-in-one smart planter that also serves as a humidifier (combined with aroma oils), air purifier, Bluetooth speaker, desk lamp and alarm clock. It features two-color LED lights, which promote the photosynthesis of plants to grow faster, while producing bright and eye-friendly light. The absorption sliver waters the plants automatically, while visible water level windows on each side lets users check the amount of water in the plant and the humidifier. The compact multi-task device includes everything one might need to create a sustainable and welcoming atmosphere in any place. Brightness of the lighting can be adjusted, while double purification of plants and negative ions deodorizes, removes pollution, and improves air quality. On top of that, when paired with a smartphone using the Bluetooth function, the gadget can also play music. via designboom.com

#BeOpenARCH Local architecture studio HAL has created the world’s first “swimmable bridge.” Named Sky Pool, the project comprises a 35-metre-high fully transparent swimming pool spanning between two buildings in Battersea, London. Made entirely from lightweight acrylic panels, it allows swimmers to look directly down to the ground or enjoy fantastic views over the capital. The team's preliminary designs combined glass and steel, but this resulted in structures that had too many solid elements. The final swimming pool lacks any visible structure, which according to the team, endows it with a magical quality – a sense of drama for swimmers and spectators alike.

#BeOpenDESIGN Switch is an award-winning toothbrush design by Ben Cullis Watson and Crux Product Design, which allows the user to change only the brush head and keep the long-lasting metal handle. The product comes with three different head options, which can be replaced by simply twisting the top of the brush. The options vary between sensitive, complete care, and whitening to address the different needs. To ensure effective cleaning, the bristles change color indicating that the head needs to be changed. All parts of the toothbrush are produced from recycled materials. More toothbrush designs with sustainability at their core in our blog

#BeOpenARCH Illustrator Federico Babina has been commissioned by Edilpiù, leading Italian brand in the sector of doors and windows, to design a playground made up of a collage of timber door and window frames. Named Lunette pavilion and located in the city of Lugo, Italy, the structure stands as an exploration of the concept of the window, starting from a broader reflection on architecture and the elements that compose it. Babina notes that ‘windows are the eyes of architecture’ as he rethinks the window as a frame capable of emphasizing the stories and landscapes that surround it. The pavilion is a part of Edilpiù’s cultural and artistic project aimed at discovering the relationship between inside and outside.

#BeOpenARCH Architect Alberto Roncelli has created Regenera, a skyscraper that dissolves to heal ecosystems that have been burned down by wildfires. Located in the center of a burnt ecosystem, the 80-meter tall tower will spread nutrients and seeds through winds, as it degenerates. The high-rise will accompany its ecosystem during all the phases, from the burnt forest until the total recovery. In the beginning of the healing process, there will be a laboratory on the lower level dedicated to experimenting, monitoring, and researching the process and the progress of the ecosystem. In the following phases, scientists will abandon the skyscraper, for it to serve as a temporary shelter for birds and small to medium sized animals. Each part of the sustainable architecture project is carefully programmed and diversified, defining a life cycle determined by erosion and constant transformation.

#BeOpenARCH Four-level residential building in the suburb of Kifisia in Athens, Greece, designed by local Kordas Architects, incorporates a swimming pool, which is partly visible through a glass wall in one of the bedrooms on the lower level. The water ripples and the blue hue of the exterior pool generate an immersive dream-like atmosphere inside. Overall, the distinctive curved geometry, design elements, and the ambience of the project as a whole, aim to serve as a unifying concept of harmonious integration of the building as a technical creation into the natural environment.

#BeOpenARCH The project of a floating swimming pool for New York’s East River, proposed by Los Angeles studio PlayLab and the non-profit organization +Pool over a decade ago, has been approved by the authorities of the city. The design, which includes a lap pool and an area for children, will provide a safe place for people to swim, while cleaning the river water utilizing a membrane filtration system that has been modelled using software developed by the US’s Environmental Protection Agency. Completion is expected within two years. More amazing floating pools in our blog
