| 2 |  Suez tightens transit rules for ageing ships
The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has introduced mandatory inspections and trials for vessels aged 25 years and older, adding further costs and potential delays for operators of ageing tonnage.
The new regulations, already effective, require vessels to undergo a comprehensive inspection and trials before securing permission to transit the canal, with all applicable fees payable in advance.
According to instructions issued by the authority’s Movement Department and circulated to shipping agents this week, vessels returning within six months of their last inspection will be exempt from repeating the procedure, provided no defects, breakdowns or adverse technical observations have been recorded.

A Singapore-flagged container ship has sunk after being struck by an unknown projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, according to Singaporean authorities.
All 21 crew members of GFS Pride were evacuated and no injuries were reported after the attack on Tuesday, which caused damage and a fire, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said.
Another Singapore-flagged container vessel, GFS Giselle, sustained hull damage after being hit by a projectile on Wednesday but was able to reach a safe anchorage with all 22 crew, it added.
Iran's Revolutionary Guards said a ship hit naval mines and sank while passing through what they called an "unauthorised" route in the Strait of Hormuz.

| 6 |  Suez Canal Highlights Continued Return of Containerships
The Suez Canal Authority reports it hit a new milestone in rebuilding volumes following the disruptions due to Red Sea security concerns. Despite the persistent concerns, volume continues to build with more carriers switching vessels back to their planned routes.
Transits of containerships increased dramatically during the third quarter of 2026 versus 2025. The Suez Canal Authority released data reporting that 166 medium (over 130,000 net tons) and ultra-large container vessels made the transit between July and September. That is versus just 16 container vessels in that size range in the third quarter of 2025.
Tonnage figures showed an equally large increase. The total for large container vessels reached 29 million net tons during the most recent quarter. That compared to just a total of 2.4 million net tons a year ago.

A civilian cargo ship has sunk and its crew is missing after being attacked by drones in the Black Sea, Bulgarian officials say.
A second vessel - carrying grain - was also hit within Bulgaria's exclusive economic zone, Prime Minister Rumen Radev said. Its 18 crew were rescued.
Radev did not say who was behind the attacks, which come as Russia intensifies strikes in the Black Sea, particularly the eastern side, as part of its war against Ukraine.

Iran-aligned Houthi forces are advancing towards strategic areas on Yemen’s Red Sea coast, bringing the armed group closer to a shipping chokepoint separating the country from Djibouti and Eritrea.
Four Yemeni government military sources toldReuters on Thursday that Houthi fighters were closing in on Mocha and Dhubab, two coastal areas located near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
The advance could give the group greater control over Yemen’s Red Sea coastline and increase its ability to threaten vessels travelling between the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
Bab el-Mandeb sits between Yemen on the Arabian Peninsula and Djibouti and Eritrea in the Horn of Africa. It links the Gulf of Aden to the Red Sea and ultimately Egypt’s Suez Canal.
