Event Submissions: SOON!
Hi folks! We're grateful to the attendees that pitch events to be considered for our schedule each year and help to make Scotiacon the fantastic celebration of our community that it is.
We wanted to let you know that we'll open for event and DJ set proposals for our 2027 convention on September 1st at 7pm.
We'll post details of where to submit your proposals on the day and the window will remain open throughout September for you to send your ideas.
We can't wait to see what you come up with this year, what would you like to see in 2027?

| 3 | Registration Update!
Hello everyone! A quick update on registration for you all. Our team has powered through the residential registrations and expect to issue the final payment requests this weekend. This means that payment requests for non-residential registrations will start to emerge in the next few days.
This is much quicker than we expected and we appreciate that some non-residential attendees may not be prepared for a payment request as early as this. If you cannot make the payment deadline on a non-residential registration but could make the payment later, here's what you need to do.
After your payment deadline lapses and when you are ready to pay, email our friendly Registration team and ask for your registration to be reactivated. You'll then be able to pay your registration as normal. The only condition is that you must do this before Registration closes later this year.
We'll give you as much warning as possible before we close registration, via all our usual channels. In the meantime, if you have any questions about your registration, you can email the team at registration@scotiacon.org.uk | 2 477 |

| 5 | Recruiting Now: Event Liaisons
Hi all! We have an opportunity for volunteers to join our Events team as Event Liaisons to help shape our events programme and support our event runners both before and at the convention. If you're great with people and enjoy organising and planning, read on to learn more and find out how to apply!
Here's what you'll be doing with the Events team:
- Vetting and curating event proposals
- Helping construct our schedule
- Liaising with event runners before and at our event
- Coordinating events at con and solving issues
- Managing our ticket system to log requests & decisions
We're a diverse team, but we'd like volunteers to show the following:
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to manage multiple tasks and keep calm under pressure
- Motivation to create an amazing attendee experience

| 9 | Recruiting Now! Deputy Head of Events
Hi folks! Our event schedule has grown significantly over recent years. As we look to increase the number of event spaces we have, that schedule is only likely to grow and our team needs to grow to manage it. As part of that growth, we're recruiting two Deputy Heads for the Events team.
These are leadership roles that will work with the Head of Events across the annual convention cycle, ensuring the team remains well co-ordinated with the other convention teams and supporting the Event Liaisons and our event-running attendees to deliver a strong and well organised events programme.
You don't need to have worked with our Events team before to apply; we welcome applications from anyone with relevant experience either within the fandom or outside it and with drive to support a busy team, deliver a great events programme, and who can commit time both at the con and outside it.
We've created a recruitment pack for potential applicant to review which has a lot more information about the role, the team, and details on what we're looking for. | 10 |  Registration - What Happens Next?
Hey everyone! Registration has been open for about a week and it's great to see so many of you excited to join us again in Glasgow next year. What happens next depends on if you are aiming for a residential or non-residential registration; here's what to expect!
If you are opting for a residential registration, which includes both attendance and accommodation at one of our partner hotels, the Crowne Plaza or the Hilton Garden Inn, the lottery window is open until 8pm on Monday 3rd August. To be included, you must have an eligible registration by then.
An eligible registration means you have completed both the registration and accommodation forms in our system at https://reg.scotiacon.org.uk and successfully created a room share with a partner. You can see your room share on the accommodation form under "Your Sharing Group".
After the lottery window closes, we'll lock the system for approximately three days to enable us to complete checks and perform the draw. Once that is complete, we will send all applications for residential registrations a note to inform them whether they have been successful or not.
You do not have to pay at this point! If you've been successful in obtaining a residential registration, we will send you a second note within the following four weeks requesting your payment. These will not all be sent at once, so don't worry if someone else gets one first.
The payment deadline is seven days after the payment request is sent to you. We anticipate that all payment requests for residential registrations should be delivered by early September. Once you've paid, your room and registration is secured and you can look forward to joining us in Glasgow!
If you are not successful in obtaining a residential registration, you will join the waiting list for cancellations, but you can switch out to a non-residential registration at any time and arrange your own accommodation. You will be able to do this as soon as the system unlocks after the lottery.
Applications for non-residential registrations will only start to be processed after we've completed the residential registrations from the lottery, which we anticipate to be in early September, even if you applied for non-residential registration as soon as we opened registration.
This process is simpler; as there is no need for a lottery outcome note, you will only receive the note requesting your payment. The same deadline for payment applies here, payment is due within seven days after the payment request is sent to you.
We have not yet fixed a closing date for registration, but will give as much notice as possible before we do close. Until then we will continue to offer non-residential registrations, allow people to join the residential waiting list, and for those on the waiting list to change to non-residential.

| 14 |  Something New for Registration Tomorrow!
Registration opens at 8pm tomorrow! Are you ready? New this year, we're offering the option to add a £10 donation to our 2027 charity, Willows Animal Sanctuary, as part of your registration. As with all our bolt-ons, this is totally optional and won't affect the lottery outcome for residential reg.
Please note that donating this way incurs a small fee from our payment processor (typically 15p for UK cards) which is deducted from the donation. | 15 | Dealers' Den Application Deadline Tonight!
Hey everyone, a reminder that Dealers' Den applications close at the end of Sunday July 12th - that's today! Any applications we receive after this time will not be reviewed in our first round and will join our waitlist.

We do this so that all applications received in our first round are guaranteed a response on whether or not they have been successful in receiving a table before they need to register for the convention itself.

Hey friends! It's 7pm on 6th July so that means applications for Den tables at our 2027 event are open!
We've prepared a quick Q&A to help answer some common questions about the process. Here's what you need to know...
Q: Where do I register?

Q: Do I need to provide a portfolio with my application?

Q: Do I need to rush to get a table?
A: No! Applications are not first come, first served, but they close at the end of 12th July.
Q: Will I know if I have a table before I pay for my convention registration?
A: Yes, as long as you submit you application by 11:59pm on 12th July you will receive an outcome before your con registration payment is due.
Q: Does applying for a Den table now give me any advantage in receiving a convention registration or room in one of the convention hotels?
A: No, there is no advantage and you will still have to register at the same time as all other attendees. The lottery approach will still apply to you.
Q: When do I pay for my table?
A: At the same time as you pay for your convention registration. Please note that you must have a convention registration to be a dealer in our Den. If you accept a table but do not pay for a convention registration, your table will be forfeit.

| 17 | Registration Opens July 20th at 8pm UK Time
Hi everyone! Registration for Scotiacon 2027: Massive in the Metropolis will open at 8pm UK time on Monday July 20th! Remember, we are now operating a lottery system for residential registration, so you do not need to register immediately at that time to secure a room in one of our partner hotels!
The lottery will be drawn two weeks after opening, so you must have an eligible registration completed by 8pm UK time on Monday August 3rd. An eligible registration is one that has completed registration & accommodation forms, and which has connected in the reg system with a room share partner!
Anybody completing an eligible residential registration after 8pm UK time on August 3rd will be added to the waiting list in the order that they register. Anyone wishing to switch from a residential to a non-residential registration at this stage can do so by contacting the Registration team.
If you want a non-residential registration, the lottery does not apply and you can register anytime before we close in a few months - we'll advise when that will be closer to the date. As per last year, all badge numbers are assigned randomly, so there's no benefit to registering as soon as we open.

| 18 | An Update on 2027 Registration
Hello folks! 2026 was the largest convention we've ever had and registration was busier than ever. Due to the huge demand and the speed at which rooms sold, we wanted to let you know that in 2027 we will operate residential registration on a lottery basis. Let's talk about why and how it will work.
In 2026 we had 2,335 attendees join us in Glasgow, nearly 40% more than in 2025. Almost half of these registered at the opening of registration and, on review, we saw the Crowne Plaza sold out of rooms in less than ten minutes. This presents both attendees and our Reg team with a number of problems.
These issues include:
- Attendees must be available at an arbitrary date and time
- The process penalises those with more to type - e.g medical details
- The process is biased against those who need longer to complete forms
- Attendees may be rushed into giving incomplete or incorrect information
With all this in mind, to provide the fairest and most accessible registration experience possible, we took the decision to move to a lottery approach, giving people time to complete the details fully and at their leisure before we allocate the rooms randomly across the accumulated registrations.
The timeline is below; here's how it will work. Registration will initially be open for two weeks. When you register during that period has no bearing on if you receive a room or not. After that, eligible registrations will be randomly drawn into rooms and outcomes sent to attendees within 3 days.
To be eligible for the lottery, you must have completed a registration and successfully created a room share with a partner. Incomplete or registrations without a completed room share will not be entered into the lottery, so be sure to check that everything is completed before the two week mark!
When you receive a confirmation, if you have been assigned a room, you do not need to pay immediately. Payment requests will be sent over the following four weeks. Payment is due once you've received a payment request and both members of the room share must then pay within seven days.
If you are unsuccessful in the lottery, remaining registrations will be drawn into a waiting list and any late registrations will join the same waiting list. As in previous years, registrations in the waiting list can switch to non-residential and arrange their own accommodation at any time.
If you are only seeking a non-residential registration, the process is similar to previous years and you may register at any point while we remain open. We'll start to work these after the initial lottery outcomes are processed, so don't worry if you don't receive an immediate request for payment.
As in previous years, we'll announce regularly how we're getting on with the process and whether we are ahead or behind of expectations. We don't anticipate running out of non-residential registrations, but if we see such growth that we need to close early, we'll give as much notice as possible.
We realise not everyone will welcome a lottery, but we believe this is the best way to make registration fair and accessible; we hope the majority of attendees will agree.

| 19 | Artist Alley Update
Hey everyone! We wanted to share an update on our Artist Alley for 2027. In 2026, queues for the Alley caused significant crowding and difficulty for attendees. To avoid this happening again, having considered many options, we have taken the difficult decision not to run an Artist Alley in 2027.
We do not take this decision lightly, as we know the Alley is a popular event for both artists and attendees alike, but we must place the safety of our attendees first. With no other suitable spaces to move the Den to within our existing function space, we felt there was no viable alternative.
Does this mean the Alley is gone forever? No; we're looking at options for extra space which could allow the Alley to return and we look forward to talking more about these once they are confirmed. However, as Den applications will soon open, we wanted to be clear on our plans for the Alley in 2027. | 2 635 |
