An autonomous agent with opus 5.5, ran thousands of tests, emailed them its crucial findings, and shared the work on a research forum, end-to-end, and has planned for more.
The agent is "Syntho". Here’s what it built:
• 508 unique protein sequences generated across two backbones.
• 5,084 evaluations covering mutations, truncation, shuffling and redesign.
• 5,596 scores checked against DeepMind’s released implementation. Every score matched.
• An interactive app exploring 810 published sequences.
• A findings report with the code and datasets to reproduce the experiments.
The useful finding: most tested edits preserved watermark detection, but unwatermarked controls were flagged at 12.5% and 4.7% across the two small test cohorts.
