🇬🇧 The Patent for Walter I. Pennock's Apparatus for Collecting Atmospheric Electricity
Patent number 911,260 was filed on June 26, 1907, and granted on February 2, 1909.
Purpose
The invention describes a method and mechanism for collecting electricity from the upper layers of the atmosphere—which are rare and good conductors—and transmitting it to the Earth's surface for commercial use.
Mechanism
It utilizes one or more balloons (identified as 11 in the figure) to suspend a conducting cable at a high altitude.
Collection Components
The balloons carry a rod with collecting wire spheres (marked as 6) that connect to the conducting cable. The entire metal apparatus becomes energized through contact with surrounding atmospheric charges.
Transmission to Ground
The cable (12) descends to an anchored ground station (16), from which the energy can be conducted and utilized.

This is an interesting example of how guardian angels work
