On July 24, 1993, Manuel Schadwald, a twelve-year-old German boy, left his home in Berlin. He was alone. He never returned.
The police opened an investigation. In 1998, they closed it without results. No body. No culprits. No answers.
Meanwhile, in Belgium and the Netherlands, activists discovered that the clues led to a much darker network.
Manuel was kidnapped and taken to child brothels in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. But the most terrifying version points to the Apollo yacht.
According to testimonies and Dutch intelligence, on that sailboat the boy was abused and murdered while they filmed it. A real snuff film. The body was thrown into the sea and the yacht cleaned in a military port.
The yacht was linked to Gerrit Ulrich, implicated in the Zandvoort scandal (1998). After his death, police found thousands of images and videos of extreme child abuse, including babies, along with client lists from various countries.
One of the people who investigated this connection was Gina Pardaens-Bernaer, a Belgian social worker. Her work led her to the Zandvoort material. She sent copies to Interpol. She received threats. Her son was hit by a car. In November 1998, she said: "With what I've discovered, either Belgium explodes or they murder me."
The next day, her car was found smashed against a bridge, with no brake marks. The police closed it as an accident. Hours later, they raided her lawyer's office. Gina died.
Her case adds to the list of suspicious deaths linked to these investigations.
Manuel's case is directly connected to the Dutroux case. The same networks. The same accusations of institutional protection. The same suspicions that influential people were involved and that investigations were halted when they pointed too high.
The authorities never thoroughly investigated the connections to the Apollo yacht or Zandvoort. Dutch police said they found nothing. German police closed the case without connecting the dots. And yet, the documents exist.
Dutch intelligence files speak of a German boy murdered on a boat and a covered-up case because "there were influential people on board." Testimonies detail facts and names. Gina Pardaens claimed to have a copy of the snuff film. That copy disappeared after her death.
Thirty-two years later, Manuel Schadwald remains missing. There is no justice.
This case is not just the story of a boy who disappeared.
It is the story of how a child abuse network operated for years in Europe with impunity. How investigations were stopped when they got too close to power. How a twelve-year-old boy could be kidnapped, abused, and murdered while someone filmed it... and the system decided it was better not to look.
Manuel wanted to go play on a summer day.
He ended up on an elite yacht, being raped and murdered while they filmed his death. And 32 years later, we still don't know who was on that boat.
The truth is there. In the documents. In the testimonies. In the connections to Zandvoort and Dutroux.
The question is no longer what happened to Manuel Schadwald.
The question is: how much longer are we going to keep allowing these cases to be shelved while those responsible remain protected?

De tijger accepteerde zijn straf, maar hij vroeg de leeuw: "Majesteit, waarom heeft u me gestraft?” “Het gras is tenslotte groen?”

De leeuw antwoordde: "Dat heeft niets te maken met de vraag of het gras blauw of groen is." "De straf is omdat het niet mogelijk is voor een dapper, intelligent wezen als jij, om je tijd te verspillen aan ruzie met een aap, en bovendien om mij met die vraag te komen lastigvallen”.
De ergste tijdverspilling is ruzie maken met de dwaas en fanaticus die niets om waarheid of realiteit geven, maar alleen om de overwinning van hun overtuigingen en illusies. Verspil nooit tijd aan discussies die geen zin hebben. Er zijn mensen die ondanks al het bewijsmateriaal dat aan hen wordt gepresenteerd niet het vermogen hebben om het te begrijpen, en anderen die verblind zijn door ego en wrok, en het enige dat ze willen is gelijk hebben, zelfs al ze dat niet hebben. Als onwetendheid schreeuwt, dan zwijgt intelligentie.
Blijf je waarheid spreken en leef je waarheid. Nodig uit tot dialoog. Maar ga nooit het gevecht aan met een dwaas. Want hij trekt je omlaag naar zijn niveau en verslaat je met ervaring.
