| 11 | The ITC block deal really happened, but the flash gets the value wrong and the seller and buyers aren't confirmed yet. It was Rs 9,437 Cr, not Rs 9,700 Cr. The flash probably used the market price instead of the deal price.
Confirmed
When: today, 8 Oct, in the pre-open block window (8:45 to 9:00 AM IST).
Size: 36.66 crore shares, about 2.93% of ITC.
Price: Rs 257.35, about a 3.1% discount to yesterday's close of Rs 265.70.
Value: Rs 9,437 Cr.
Likely but not proven
GQG as seller: the English original by NDTV Profit's Soumeet Sarkar said "GQG likely seller", and the Hindi version dropped "likely". GQG's filing on 6/7 Oct shows it held 39.68 crore shares (3.17%) as of 5 Oct. Today's block is about 92% of that, so it fits GQG very closely.
"Clean out": if GQG was the only seller, it would still hold about 3 crore shares (0.24%). That's a near-full exit, not a confirmed full one.
Not confirmed
The foreign long-only fund taking one-third, and Nippon, ICICI Pru, SBI, Kotak and AB Capital buying the rest, come only from one unnamed banker. No news site names any buyer yet.
Be careful with older lists naming those same mutual funds. Those were buyers in the March 2024 BAT block at Rs 400.25, not today's deal.
ITC stock today: Rs 255.65 at 11:41 AM IST, down 3.8%. That is below the block price, it's the top Nifty loser, and the stock is down about 27 to 29% in 2026.
Background: GQG bought ITC around Rs 400 to 407 in 2024-25. It took its stake to 5.47% in May 2025 and bought blocks at Rs 407.10 in Nov 2025. So if GQG sold today at Rs 257, that's roughly a 35% loss on those buys (my estimate). GQG has also been cutting its Adani holdings this year.
The official seller and buyer names will be in NSE's block deal file after market close tonight. I can check it this evening and send you the confirmed names if you'd like.

| 16 | Bhagyanagar India didn't crash today. The stock shows about -91% (Rs 41.40 vs Rs 454.55 yesterday, at 10:16 AM IST) because today is the record date for splitting off its copper business into a new company, Tieramet Limited.
The split: for every 1 Bhagyanagar share held on 7 Oct, you get 1 Tieramet share. Tieramet is the real business, with FY26 operating income of about Rs 2,372 Cr. Its shares will only trade once it lists separately, and I couldn't find a listing date yet.
What's left in Bhagyanagar: small wind, solar, telecom and real estate assets. Sales are only about Rs 5.6 Cr a year, which is why the market cap now shows about Rs 139 Cr.
Before the split: the stock ran up from Rs 403 to Rs 455 last week and hit the upper circuit on 7 Oct, the last day to buy and still get Tieramet shares.
