A vast amount of attention has been placed on the 2,500 remaining U.S.troops still in Iraq, though they are winding down their vastly reduced operations and will depart Iraq relatively soon and fully. Yesterday was a huge day in Iraq as Iraqi prime minister Al-Kadhimi received assurances at The White House that the U.S. was planning a final withdrawal, which will leave Iraq alone to face the real threat presented by the Iran regime, which borders Iraq and just so happens to be the world's largest state sponsor of terrorism. In my appearance on Iraq's national evening newscast yesterday, I pointed out this obvious double standard along with the outrageous reality that no such pressure or demands are being placed of Iran's Islamic regime and its terrorist campaigns in Iraq (or Syria, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Israel, or anywhere regionally or globally). Nor has this tyrannical regime even suggested that ending their vast regional and global terrorism was anything they would consider. As I told the people of Iraq last night on their national television newscast, it's long past time that we confront the reality of Iran's terrorist regime. It's been nearly 18 years since Joe Biden and 76 other senators from both parties voted to authorize the use of force that launched this lengthy and deadly conflict that, sadly, took the lives of over 4,400 American heroes--and delivered essentially nothing to our nation in return. The time has now come, as the U.S. prepares its final withdrawal from Iraq, for an unflinching commitment to ending Tehran's vast terrorist undertakings and empire. The U.S. and all free nations must demand that it end--and, until it does the maximum pressure campaign that President Trump properly launched to deny this terror-sponsoring regime the financial resources it needs to carry out and even expand these deadly undertakings must be denied resources and held accountable in other ways.
