Does the area under the chin need to be covered during prayer? When praying, a woman is required to cover her entire body except for her face and hands. But how is the face defined, and does the submental area (under the chin) count? Here’s a breakdown of the ruling: • Defining the Face: In width, it spans from ear to ear. In length, it extends from the hairline at the forehead down to the lower chin bone. • The Ruling: The majority of scholars state that the area underneath the chin is technically not part of the face and should ideally be covered. • Eased Difficulty: Scholars also recognize the hardship and practical difficulties in keeping this area strictly covered during every movement in prayer. Because it is a small section that is usually only slightly visible from the sides, leaving it uncovered does not invalidate the prayer. Conclusion: Try your very best to ensure coverage to the best of your ability. However, if that small area becomes exposed, your prayer remains valid. 📌 (New Season) Family: The Home We Build Together | Surah Luqman and Al-Sajdah What does it mean to make our family a happy and safe space? A safe home is not one where children are protected from every difficulty, disagreement or disappointment, but a home where they learn who Allah is, how to turn to Him, and how to navigate life with faith. Surah Luqman gives us a beautiful model of family tarbiyah. Through Luqman’s advice to his son, we learn how faith is nurtured through tawhid, awareness of Allah, solat, patience, humility and good character. But amongst this advice, there is something deeper: wisdom in how we speak, guide and connect with our children. Meanwhile, Surah Al-Sajdah provide us with the spiritual foundation upon which a family should be built. Knowing Allah as our Creator, recognizing His signs, submitting to His revelation, and remembering that our ultimate return is to Him. Together, both of these surahs invite us to rethink the family as not merely a place where children grow up, but as first school of faith, first experience of belonging, and a place where they learn how to face the world with Allah in it. Ultimately, a safe family is not a home where life is always easy.
