Around the country, police are brutalizing students and professors, subjecting them to a small taste of what Palestinians have endured for generations.
Every time a mercenary puts on a police uniform, he commits treason to humanity. Nothing could be more dangerously irresponsible than silencing your conscience and selling your capacity to inflict harm to the highest bidder. Yet this is the very job description of the police.

“Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows, or both.”

Day One: University of Texas Austin Students Take the Lawn
https://crimethinc.com/UTApril24
On April 24, students, faculty, and community members assembled on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin to demonstrate against the complicity of the university administration in the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Fearing a repeat of the upheavals that have taken place at Columbia University and elsewhere around the country, campus authorities mobilized a massive number of police in response. Yet despite arrests and violence, the demonstrators ultimately outlasted and outmaneuvered the police. In this report, participants describe what they learned.

More video footage showing how to extinguish tear gas canisters.
This video from Chile shows how to extinguish tear gas canisters quickly, safely, and easily. Please pass it on!
To deal with those tear gas canisters, take a water jug with a wide mouth, pick up the canister with protective gloves, drop it in the jug, and shake the jug while covering the top with your hand just enough that the gas doesn't get out.
It can help to put a little baking soda, dish soap, and/or vegetable oil in the jug of water—3 tablespoons of each to 1 liter of water.
Don't seal the bottle. You don't want it to explode.

"This is about stopping the genocide in Palestine."
The text of a flier distributed at Columbia University, along with a printable pdf:

The flier sets forth ten points about the significance of the fight against the genocide in Gaza in the context of rising authoritarianism around the world.
We are now offering a zine version of the reportback from the successful building occupation in solidarity with Gaza that took place at Cal Poly Humboldt.

A continuous thread of revolutionary struggle connects the Occupy movement of 2011 to the Gaza solidarity encampment of 2024.
This little handout summarizes some of the lessons of that experience:

Campus Building Occupations from 2008 to Today
https://crimethinc.com/BuildingOccupations
Last night, students acting in solidarity with those suffering in Gaza successfully occupied and defended a building at Cal Poly Humboldt campus in Arcata.
In hopes of equipping today's student demonstrators to experiment more, we present a history of the wave of campus building occupations that took place from December 2008 to 2010—written by participants in some of the first occupations of that era.
Graffiti from inside Siemens Hall at Cal Poly Humboldt right now, reading "Cops beat students here—all cops are cursed."
According to local media, as of 10:50 pm,
"All law enforcement have left from in front of the building and appear to be leaving the campus. Scanner traffic appears to confirm that law enforcement has left the scene. One officer said that law enforcement is being 'disbanded.' Students are currently pouring in and out of the occupied building."

For the second time in a week, students have successfully held territory against the full force of police raids.
In solidarity with those suffering in Gaza, students have occupied Siemens Hall at Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata. Police have attempted to storm the building to evict it; they inflicted injuries on some students, but have thus far failed to gain entry.
All around the country, encampments and demonstrations are taking place now.

There are more tents up at the Gaza solidarity encampment at Columbia University now than there were before the police raid. Police evicted the camp at Yale today, but similar camps are appearing as far away as Michigan and North Carolina.

The question remains: how can this momentum spread beyond the walls of the universities?
Today, with the encampments at universities around the US in our thoughts, we are mailing out copies of our zine "Why We Don't Make Demands" in the packages of books people order.
