The podcast intern and some of our friends had a break from clipping and they developed this massive nationalist pvp game that the coinbase team is promoting it now. With the israel/palestine war going hard too it's like three really big indicators for me

You get some free (testnet, so not real) money on account creation you can use to do stuff. it's a socialfi thing where they paid for Twitter api access so they have access to all the user metrics and rank accounts based on them. Like views, engagement ratio, reach etc all impact the performance of an account. It seems like you basically bet on the performance of accounts each week and select 5 who's cards you hold you think will do the best? I dunno, I'm not affiliated with them at all, just dm'd one of the founders some because I replied to him saying "are you trying to scam me"

I know there must've been SOME places that were cheaper because the average wage for native lisboners is like 8k, but as far as I could tell the restaurants in all the areas we were in were charging american-ish prices because the people coming there and eating at them were american, or working remotely from american, so they could afford it. The markets on the other hand were genuinely way cheaper, but I think I was pretty much the only one in the party to notice that because I was also the only one to bring a portable range to the hotel room so I could try the local stuff

| 15 | Something else sort of related to the above point is that I don't think people experience their own vacations anymore. They read about a place, talk to people about the place, look at pictures etc of the place, and then when they go there none of the stuff they do really sticks - they just sort of already have this opinion of this place and what it's like being there.
This happened to me when I went to Lisbon. on return, my mom asked me what if was like and told me she was going there in a few months with my dad and some friends they have. I said "I tihnk you guys should just enjoy your vacation, there's nothing I have that'll be super useful to you" but she kept prying and eventually I told her what I thought. She started disagreeing with me! I was like, okay. that's fair, I didn't like live there or anything, I don't feel super strongly about this. But it became very clear that she felt really really strongly about it and she was not willing to let it go
I wasn't really doing any deep psychoanalysis in the convo with my mom, much more so just trying to extricate myself and talk about her pets or my cat or really anything else, but after the fact it occurred to me that she'd basically already had her Lisbon vacation in her head, and me telling her things that "debunked" it wound up slamming her with some cognitive dissonance. I tried testing this on other people who were planning vacations and in all but one case it was the same sort of thing - person who's never been to this place before in their life strongly and passionately corrects the guy who has been there, based on things they read and pictures they saw
I think it's just all sort of an infinite blended wormhole now? People see pictures of other people doing some thing and talking about how much they loved the thing, they plan a trip to do the thing, they sort of half-pay attention to the thing as they do it (because they're also taking pictures that roughly mimic the ones they saw before planning the trip). There's just really low willingness to deviate from the morphic rut everyone else has paved already, and given the pretty fluid nature of memory it gets overwritten and mixed together with whatever the media presentation of the vacation is and creates an interesting sort of digitally implanted memory
I'm not even necessarily sure this is a bad thing? It sounds sort of dystopian and I'd much rather go and do the whole thing myself, but I also am a weird person would enjoy getting to tell people about some funny negative aspect of his vacation or weird loserish thing he did, and most people don't want to do that. Most people just want to remember normal fun happy pleasant aesthetic times with their loved ones. I think the memory implanting probably aids that??
I dunno. It's a really weird phenomenon, either way. The strangest comes out when you get to talking about an objective and quantifiable aspect of a place - like, the price of food. Multiple times I would say either "It's cheap" or "it's not as cheap as everyone says" and people would disagree. and I would ask where they stayed, and we would confirm that we were both in the same area. and then we would look up the restaurants and their average prices, and I would go "see?" and they would start arguing that somehow it was still expensive relative to some neighboring other country they'd never visited, not that it was expensive in comparison to america or something. Just really weird stuff. I have a pretty accurate cost of living estimate that gets built out as I spend time in an area and increasingly I'm realizing this is abnormal | 462 |

I think the people who make the best of everything in their lives and the people who only experience what other people tell them they should experience are like totally different species at this point. Like yeah, prison is not nearly as cool as what he gets up to otherwise, but with the way I experience life that's not really even something I'd notice. Su is the same way. You find a good and fun part to focus on and then you don't really think about the bad stuff. It's the same with everything, doesn't matter if it's prison or something genuinely enjoyable
So then you see these guys saying like "THATS COPING BRO" and it's like... i mean kind of?? like this entire way of interacting with the world is a way of coping with the fact that not every situation is ideal but you also don't wanna go around being a depressive retard about it, and you want to still accomplish things?
"coping" has a negative connotation because the implication is that you're coping instead of dealing with reality in a way that might teach you or make you stronger or something, but when you're in prison? It's actually fine to use coping mechanisms to stay mentally healthy. It's not like they let you out sooner if you start bawling and crying for your gfs titties, you're in there for the same amount of time either way so you might as well figure out how to enjoy it. Something like this happened to me around when covid first went around too. At the time I thought it was just some sort of girly weather-meme or something but after some more time online I bet whatever's infecting me has a lipid membrane that gets more solid at lower temps and sort of melts apart and loses efficacy when you heat it up. I think this is the case for a lot of illnesses and it's part of why your body heats you up to clear stuff but there's also a curve to things - ie not all bacteria lose cohesion at the same rate when you raise temps.
Lot of stuff like this makes me excited for the point in the next 10 years when someone comes out with little tiny microscope probes we can stab into our stomachs and connect to a computer to see what all is going on in there in real time. They have stuff like this to monitor blood glucose levels constantly so you can actually watch it peak and drop instead of having to guess based on like 3 needle pricks. There's a sensor that kind of lampreys itself onto your arm to get ahold of some fluids and then connects to your phone via bluetooth to give you a readout. Pretty tricky to get a hold of one without a diabetes diagnosis but I've heard it can be done. And if they can do live glucose readouts then hormones should be on their way too
