| 3 | CSS431 - FIELD OBSERVATION UPDATE
At the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), CSS431 Field Observation is a compulsory 6-credit-unit course for B.Sc. Criminology and Security Studies students.
It requires a 3-month industrial attachment and practical fieldwork at approved security, law enforcement, or administrative agencies.
Key Guidelines and Requirements
1. Approved Placement AgenciesYou are expected to secure a 3-month placement in relevant establishments.
Acceptable organizations include:
* Police Stations, Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) facilities
* Nigeria Customs Service and Nigeria Immigration Service
* National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)
* Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) or ICPC
* Private security outfits and relevant criminal data collection centers
2. Core Activities: During your observation period, you must actively participate and take daily notes on activities such as:
* Surveillance and monitoring of security environments
* Investigation, prosecution support, and case file handling
* Administrative duties relating to criminal data collection and security reporting
3. Logbook Maintenance:
* The logbook is the most critical component of the course. It serves as your verifiable proof of attendance.
* Daily/Weekly Entries: Write brief, specific details of your daily activities, tasks completed, and skills learned.
* Sign-off: Your assigned supervisor at the placement organization must sign and stamp the logbook on a weekly basis. The official stamp must bear the name of the organization.
4. The Final Report
* At the end of the 3-month period, you are required to submit a comprehensive Field Observation Report. This document will contain your company profile, a detailed breakdown of your activities, and recommendations. It must be duly signed by both your industry supervisor and your NOUN academic supervisor.
5. Course Documentation
* Ensure you complete all necessary NOUN administrative processes.
This includes:
* Generating and printing your e-Wallet receipt as proof of payment for Field Observation via your student portal.
* Obtaining the official Placement Letter, Acceptance Form, and SCAF (Student's Confidential Assessment Form) from your Study Centre's Industrial Training/SIWES desk officer. | 15 |
| 4 | 📚 Course Materials Not Available?
It’s unfortunate that following the introduction of new courses for newly admitted students, many of the course materials are still unavailable. Meanwhile, some students have already completed their registration and are eager to begin studying.
If you were not given a hard copy of your course material and the soft copy is also UNAVAILABLE online, now is the right time to report it to the appropriate department.
📧 Email: cmdu@noun.edu.ng
nounweb@noun.edu.ng
Kindly send them a polite email explaining the course(s) whose materials are missing. This will help bring the issue to their attention so they can make the materials available as soon as possible.
The more affected students who report the issue, the faster it is likely to receive attention. | 13 |
| 5 | CIT104 Quick Update ⬇️
If you’ve checked the 2026_2 course registration portal, you may have noticed that *CIT104* is no longer available for registration, for some students.
Don’t assume you’re in the clear *if you previously failed the course.*
Its absence from the registration page doesn’t automatically mean your carryover has been cancelled. *If the university includes CIT104 in the examination schedule, affected students may still be required to take it.*
At this point, we’re hopeful that *NOUN* will either *officially withdraw the course for all affected students* or *upload the outstanding practical scores to everyone’s portal.*
We’ll keep monitoring the situation and provide new updates as soon as there’s any official information 👍

| 14 | Why is your semester fee different from other students'?
Many students are asking why the amount showing on their portal is different. Don't panic—it is not a mistake.
Here are some reasons:
* If you paid your semester fee last semester, you already paid the ₦15,000 TISHIP fee. Since it is paid once in an academic session, it has been removed from your semester fee this semester.
* If you didn't register or pay your semester fee last semester, you didn't pay the TISHIP fee. That is why the ₦15,000 has been added to your semester fee this semester.
* Not every student will pay the same semester fee. Your programme, level, and registration status can make your amount different from another student's.
So, if your portal is showing ₦29,000, ₦46,650, or any other amount, don't panic. It doesn't mean there is a mistake. Check your fee breakdown to see why your amount is different. | 30 |

NOTICE TO PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
Please if you are interested in studying in NOUN, meet a trusted consultant first before inputting your details on NOUN's website for any reason. There's a remitta number that's automatically generated when you try to register and if you lose that number, the system won't accept any further registration except you change your details completely which leads to another headache. Not everything requires just knowing how to use the internet or just being "educated." Nothing beats having someone who's done it successfully before, to hold your hands even when you think you know.
