B. General steps for applying to the AAU Graduate Program
1. Open the portal of Addis Ababa University

2. Click on the Apply for Admission link on the second bar on the left side
3. On the top bar, you will find the Graduate drop-down menu. You can click on the Programs button to view the Graduate programs and their brief description.
4. Alternatively, you can scroll down to the right bottom side entitled Graduate Study, and click Find out what programs we offer before the Apply button.
5. Once you have an overview of the disciplines and the programs listed, click on Apply.
6. Fill out the application form and pay, via Telebirr, ETB 500 for the application fee using the application number generated during the filling of the application form.
7. After completing your payment, you will need to return to the application form and complete your online application by uploading your educational document (PDF-converted,) cost-sharing document, and a signed and stamped form of sponsorship letter if sponsored by a government institution.
8. Ph.D. applicants need to upload credentials of all the previous trainings (BA/BSc and MA/M.Sc. Degree and student copy).
9. Ph.D. applicants may need to attach additional documents depending on the requirements of the department or the program.
10. MA/MSC applicants will need to upload their BA/BSc degree and student copy.
11. Government-sponsored applicants can get the sponsorship form from downloads section of the university website (
https://www.aau.edu.et/documents/registrar/).
12. Once the online application is completed, you must submit all the hard copies of your academic and other credentials in person to the AAU Admission Office, located on the second floor of the Main Campus Registrar Building, Room No. 203.
Notice
1. We would like to inform you that you will not be able to complete the registration process unless you order an official transcript to be sent in hard copy to the Addis Ababa University Registrar, PO Box 1176.
2. Department-level entrance exam schedules and admission requirements for programs are available on the department notice board and on the university website (
https://admission.aau.edu.et/GraduatePrograms ).
3. Make sure you fulfill the admission requirements of the specific program as indicated in the curriculum of the specific program (uploaded on the website of the university).
4. Applicants for health disciplines will need to attach a letter from the Ministry of Health or a university grade report for each semester upon completion of their degree.
5. We would like to inform you that programs will be opened based on the minimum intake capacity of the programs.
6. Applicants who have attended school abroad should bring Higher Education Equivalence Letter from ETA and meet all the requirements set by the University.
7. Applicants who pass the GAT are required to submit a copy of their certificate between July 28 and August 27, 2025, at the Admission Office, Room 203, 2nd floor, Main Campus Registrar Building.
