lads, i'm at the arsenal west ham game

#mufc have been advised a new build is the best option as they consider an upgrade of Old Trafford. Renovation of the stadium would be complicated due to the railway lines and existing structures. Sources have suggested enhancing the stadium would be more cost-efficient than rebuilding it, the expense would still be considerable and more time-consuming. [@samuelluckhurst]

🚨🚨 | BREAKING: Lisandro Martínez has a sprained collateral ligament. The worst scenario has been ruled out. It is between a month and a half and two months of recovery. He DOES NOT need surgery. [@gastonedul]

that's the rest of the season over then

Ten Hag on Martinez injury: "It seems bad, we have to wait and make the right diagnosis. In this moment we are very sad, hopefully it is not too bad but we can only pray. It looks like he has to sit some games out injured again." #MUFC

Kickoff! United vs West Ham is live.

Ten Hag: “Any squad in the world would be improved by having Licha Martinez, Casemiro, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Amad involved, and we are now at the point where I think this is the strongest squad I have had available for selection since I arrived at Old Trafford.” #MUFC

Ten Hag: “One of our biggest issues this term has been our inability to gain rhythm, and good results have too often been followed by setbacks, but I am hopeful that we will now start to build momentum as we continue to welcome players back into the squad.” #MUFC

Subs: Bayindir, Lindelof, Varane, Amrabat, Eriksen, McTominay, Amad, Antony, Forson. #MUFC

Manchester United Team vs West Ham: Onana, Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw, Casemiro, Mainoo, Garnacho, Fernandes, Rashford, Hojlund #MUFC

thoughts? opinions? discussion is always open in the group chat: https://t.me/manreddevils2

goes without saying that our young players, mainoo and garnacho are untouchable. no reason to sell any of them. i won't include peripheral players like kambwala either. oh yeah i guess hojlund is untouchable

the squad players maguire - prem level starting cb, good enough as the 3rd center back for us but should never be starting. would keep mount -needs more time to evaluate. first season has been rubbish for the team all round and its not fair to pass judgement on him when the whole team has been awful. i do question his fit in the team and how he fits in our midfield and i have no idea where he should play. but this will be a situation that plays itself out mctominay -has no identity on the squad except as that hail mary supersub ten hag throws on to try and rescue a goal with his box crashing. gives us some unpredictability but should never be starting games for us. he is not good enough on the ball or defensively to warrant a place in the team but he would be a fantastic player at another team like west ham. it would be better for both club and player to let him go to explore his career if we get good compensation for him. lindelof -overpaid and i don't like him but he's extended so whatever

the ? bruno fernandes - will need a serious conversation about him. he is incredibly talented and we would be nowhere without him. and i do think he would not have to play with such a laissez-faire attitude when it comes to ball possession if we simply had a better team with better attackers. i think he could definitely be defined as one of the untouchables, but we have never really been good enough to see bruno be an iteration of himself to trust other people around him to create instead of needing to take all the responsibility himself.

players that need to go antony -no words to describe him. garnacho has been playing well at rw, and we can earmark that position for him. pellistri is not exactly very good and hasn't shown any signs he is at the level to play for us, but amad is a different case. i do think we need to buy another right winger, but its funny because we've been having this problem with this position since 2019. we have signed 2 ~100m players to play here and neither have been good. eriksen -too old, and not physically mobile enough to play in holding midfield without considerable support from a midfielder that casemiro isn't able to provide. i think we can transition into a midfield 2 with mainoo and another future defensive midfielder. for as many gifts that eriksen has in terms of his creation on the ball, there are as many problems when it comes to playing him dalot/awb both limited players. awb has very little awareness defending in space, regardless of his incredible ability defending 1 on 1. and offers actually nothing on the overlap. part of why so many right wingers have come and failed and died. dalot is just really mediocre, and is prone to defensive mistakes while all round not being very good

players that we need to sign backups (and eventually replacements for) varane - too old, not as agile or fast, and only liked by ten hag to play at rcb. can't play with maguire, leading to rotational issues. still our 2nd best center back, and should be starting with martinez's return. but he has a problematic relationship with injuries and we need to sign a player that can eventually replace him casemiro - we tried signing a backup for him already in amrabat, but he has largely been awful. much taller order than most to replace than any other player, as most of the best young cdms have been snapped up by other teams (lavia, caicedo etc). hasn't been as good as last season, but that's natural with his age and he is expected to do a lot more in midfield than before. shaw -critical to the way we play, but has constant issues with injuries. i like malacia, but he's not talented or good enough to eventually replace shaw. we will need a starting level lb to replace him and be more available than he has been to us

its time for a critical appraisal of this squad - and the players who should remain, versus the players who must leave untouchable players -martinez the only player that is geniunely untouchable in our team. so many people underappreciated how important he was to us last year. he is so important to us in regards to his ball winning and building out from the back that we have been useless without him, playing jonny evans at lcb. the only person that is untouchable in ten hag's system rashford -will be controversial, especially given the disciplinary issues that he has had recently and generally poor performances. but i will argue that his poor performances this season (is partly his fault, yes) is also largely symptomatic of how bad we have been as a team this season in terms of controlling games and finding passes to him. we saw last season how important he could be when he is played to his strengths, and we need to be able to do it better (running into space, through ball transitions)

messy win but big win - up to 7th now
