Ten Hag: "I think of players like Ryan Giggs or David Beckham. That’s the culture of #mufc. I looked at that very carefully and then saw that last season's team looked fragile and vulnerable."

Ten Hag: "In the centre, there were big personalities like Jaap Stam, Vidic, Rio Ferdinand. And always a strategist in midfield. Roy Keane, the boss. Paul Scholes, a magnificent footballer and personality."

Ten Hag: "#mufc always had top strikers like Cantona, Cole, Sheringham, Yorke, Van Nistelrooy, Van Persie. And top goalkeepers like Schmeichel, Van der Sar, De Gea."

Lisandro Martínez: "He [Rashford] realises the importance of the team and his work rate for the team is very, very important as well. He's got a great attitude and I think he's going to be one of the best players in the world." [sky]

Lisandro Martínez on hugging Raphaël Varane after the World Cup final: "We shared that hug and it was important because football is like that. What happens on the pitch, stays on the pitch, but what happens off it is just as important and relationships like that count." [sky]

Lisandro Martínez on Raphaël Varane: "We've only known each other a short time at #mufc but we get on really, really well and there's a real mutual respect and feeling between us. It's like we've known each other for years." [sky]

Lisandro Martínez: "The vibe and the atmosphere in the dressing room is really positive and I'm proud we're on this good run. It shows we are on the right road and we are making progress." [sky]

Lisandro Martínez: "I totally agree totally with Casemiro [about Rashford]. He's a key player for us and he's the sort of player who can turn a game in an instant." [sky]

Lisandro Martínez: "I see him [Rashford] around the place and he's such a professional. I know how much he gives every day in the training sessions, and I like to think that I'm always there to help him and speak with him if he needs any advice." [sky]

Lisandro Martínez: "For me, Rashy is an incredible player. He can be anything he wants to be, it all depends on him." [sky]

Ten Hag: "Malacia, Martínez, Casemiro, Antony are all fighters, while Christian Eriksen is a technical winner and a great personality. We want the best of the best. Any players we bring to #mufc must meet the highest standard."

Ten Hag: "We needed personalities. That's why the acquisition of Casemiro was so important. Along with Raphaël Varane, we now have a second player who has experience of winning titles."

Ten Hag: "When we get players, you look at their quality and technical skills. But you also look at their mental quality, that mental resilience - and we had to bring that back."

Ten Hag: "And for me, it was about Sir Alex Ferguson. His teams excelled in togetherness, collectivity, spirit. You just couldn't beat them."

Ten Hag: "There was no spirit [at #mufc last season]. I saw no team dynamic in the squad. The mental resilience was very low. I saw that as an outsider - and also noticed it in my first weeks at the club. I looked at the culture of the club. I asked ‘how did #mufc become great?’"

Ten Hag: "Most purchases have been average - and at #mufc average is not good enough. United's shirt weighs heavily. Only real personalities, who can perform under great pressure, can play here."

Ten Hag on Old Trafford: "It can be [a fortress]." [MUTV]

Ten Hag: "In Ty [Malacia] and Dalot we have two fullbacks who can come into midfield, who can make overlaps and make underlaps and we need that dynamic in our build up and possession." [

Ten Hag on playing Luke Shaw at centre-back again: "It's a technical choice, he's constructed a very good centre-back [relationship] with Rapha [Varane] and also Tyrell Malacia looks really strong, so I want to keep that." [MUTV]
