Key features
Fabrication: The chip was fabricated at SCL's 180nm CMOS facility in Mohali.
Design: It is based on a custom instruction set architecture (ISA) tailored for space applications, allowing for efficient processing of complex calculations.
Performance:
Floating-point computation: The processor has built-in capabilities for floating-point math, which is essential for aerospace missions.
Operating frequency: It operates at 100 MHz.
Power consumption: It has a low operating power of less than 500 mW.
Reliability: Unlike standard commercial chips, the VIKRAM3201 is designed to withstand the extreme temperatures (-55°C to +125°C), radiation, and vibration of space launches and missions.
Software support: All supporting software tools, such as compilers, assemblers, and simulators, were developed in-house by ISRO. The chip currently supports the Ada programming language, with work underway to add support for C.
Connectivity: It includes two on-chip interfaces for the 1553B bus, a standard communication protocol used in aerospace systems.
Space and terrestrial applications
The Vikram processor family has a history in India's space program, with the earlier 16-bit version, VIKRAM1601, used in ISRO's launch vehicles since 2009.
The VIKRAM3201 was validated in space during the PSLV-C60 mission in 2024, proving its reliability for future use. While built for satellites and rockets, its rugged design makes it suitable for other sectors that require high reliability, such as defense, energy, and automotive systems. | 596 |

In modern laptop motherboards, USB Type-C has become the universal standard for charging, data, and power delivery. At the heart of this functionality lies a small yet powerful chip—the Type-C controller. Among the most commonly used are Realtek’s RTS54XX series, including:

🔍 What is a Type-C Controller?
These controller ICs manage USB-C port operations such as:
Power Delivery (PD) negotiation
Role switching (charging/data modes)
Port direction control
Battery charging logic
Fault detection and protection
They are crucial for stable communication between the USB-C port and the system’s power delivery system.
🛠 Why Firmware Programming Matters
When these chips fail or get corrupted, common issues arise:
🔋 Slow charging or no charging
🔌 No power-on condition
⚠️ PD not negotiating correctly with adapters
🔁 Charging port constantly switching or resetting
Replacing the chip without first programming it will usually not solve the problem!
Unlike basic IC replacements, RTS54XX controllers require proper firmware flashing before installation. These chips often come blank from the factory, and motherboard manufacturers load specific firmware into them to match the system’s hardware and BIOS configuration.
