Good Sample answer:
In the contemporary educational landscape, the structure of primary schooling remains a subject of considerable debate. While some argue that primary education should centre exclusively on formal academic instruction, others contend that integrating play is equally crucial for balanced child development. In my view, both elements are indispensable, as they collectively nurture intellectual growth and essential life skills.
On the one hand, a strong emphasis on formal academics can effectively cultivate core cognitive abilities, yielding measurable benefits in the early years of schooling. This approach is exemplified by education systems in many Asian countries, where rigorous academic curricula and substantial workloads are prioritised from an early age. Consequently, students educated under such frameworks often demonstrate superior academic readiness upon transitioning to secondary school. Additionally, this structure tends to instil discipline, perseverance, and a strong work ethic, qualities that serve children well beyond the classroom.
On the other hand, incorporating play into the primary curriculum is equally vital, particularly for the development of interpersonal and emotional skills. Research has shown that childhood play is instrumental in shaping an individual's personality and emotional intelligence. Conversely, children who lack sufficient opportunities for unstructured play and peer interaction may struggle to acquire fundamental social competencies, potentially leading to difficulties with collaboration and communication later in life. Thus, integrating play-based learning alongside formal instruction is essential for fostering well-rounded development.
In conclusion, I am convinced that formal education and play are both integral components of primary schooling and should be carefully balanced. Achieving this equilibrium ensures that children acquire not only academic knowledge but also the social and emotional capabilities necessary for future success.

In an increasingly interconnected world, education systems are evolving to align with the demands of modern society. One proposal that has gained considerable support is the introduction of a compulsory period of overseas study or work placement within all undergraduate programmes. While some may argue that such requirements pose practical challenges, I am firmly convinced that the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks.
The primary advantage of requiring students to study abroad or undertake a work placement is the substantial boost it gives to their employability. Immersion in a different cultural and professional environment cultivates essential attributes such as adaptability, cross-cultural competence, and independence. For example, an engineering student who completes an internship in Germany is likely to gain exposure to advanced technologies and methodologies, which may prove highly valuable to prospective employers. Moreover, navigating unfamiliar situations and overcoming challenges alone fosters resilience and sharpens problem-solving skills, contributing to both personal and professional development.
Admittedly, critics raise valid concerns about the financial burden such a requirement would place on students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. However, this obstacle could be addressed through well-designed scholarship schemes and institutional partnerships with host organisations, ensuring that participation is not limited to those who can afford it. Another objection is that a compulsory international component might disrupt academic schedules and detract from core studies. With careful curriculum planning and the integration of these experiences into degree programmes, however, such disruptions can be minimised, allowing the placement to complement rather than compromise students' academic progress.
In conclusion, while the practical challenges associated with mandatory study abroad or work placements are not insignificant, I believe they are far outweighed by the considerable benefits. Enhanced employability, personal growth, and cross-cultural understanding make such programmes invaluable. With appropriate institutional support, these experiences can be made accessible to all, better equipping graduates for success in a globalised world.

While some contend that the Internet has rendered traditional entertainment venues such as theatres and cinemas obsolete in the 21st century, others maintain that these institutions retain considerable economic and cultural significance. This essay will examine both perspectives before explaining why I align with the latter view.
Admittedly, the case against traditional venues is not without merit. The Internet has fundamentally transformed how people access entertainment, offering unprecedented convenience. Films, television series, and even live-stage performances can now be streamed instantly from home at minimal cost, eliminating the need for travel, ticket purchases, and fixed screening times. This on-demand accessibility has unsurprisingly led many to conclude that physical venues are no longer relevant in the digital age.
Nevertheless, I would argue that theatres and cinemas continue to fulfil roles that digital platforms cannot easily replicate. Firstly, they facilitate shared experiences that counteract the increasingly isolated nature of home-based entertainment. Watching a film or live performance in a communal setting fosters a sense of collective engagement that streaming alone cannot provide. Moreover, theatres—particularly those showcasing local or traditional performances—serve as cultural gateways, enabling audiences to engage with diverse traditions and perspectives. This cultural exchange can be profoundly enriching and helps to combat social fragmentation. Finally, these venues remain significant economic contributors, generating employment across a range of sectors, including hospitality, tourism, and the arts. Their closure would therefore have repercussions far beyond entertainment alone.
In conclusion, while the convenience of Internet-based entertainment has undoubtedly shifted consumption patterns, I am convinced that theatres and cinemas remain indispensable. They offer distinct cultural and social benefits that digital alternatives cannot replace, and their economic contribution further solidifies their continued relevance in modern society.

It is often claimed that constructing high-rise apartment buildings is the most effective solution to housing shortages in large cities. While I acknowledge the practical benefits of this approach, I disagree that it is the best method, as its viability depends heavily on geological conditions and overlooks alternative strategies that may be equally or more effective.
On the one hand, building tall apartment blocks is an efficient use of limited urban land. As cities continue to attract large numbers of migrants seeking employment opportunities, their populations grow rapidly while their physical boundaries often remain fixed. In this context, high-density housing maximises the number of residential units per square metre of land, making it a logical response to rising demand. Moscow provides a clear illustration of this trend: new residential complexes, such as "21/19" and "Shk Sadovye", are being developed on a large scale specifically to accommodate the influx of workers. The vertical expansion of cities thus offers a practical means of addressing housing deficits without requiring territorial enlargement.
However, the construction of tall buildings is not without significant risks, particularly regarding geological and structural safety. Not all land is geologically stable enough to support high-rise structures, and building on unsuitable ground can have catastrophic consequences. A tragic example is the collapse of the Champlain Towers South in Florida in 2021, which resulted in nearly 100 fatalities due to foundation failure. Such incidents highlight the dangers of pursuing vertical development without thorough site evaluation and appropriate engineering safeguards. Therefore, the viability of this approach is contingent upon local conditions, which limits its universal applicability.
Furthermore, tall apartment blocks are not the only option for addressing housing shortages. Alternative approaches, such as revitalising underused urban areas, converting vacant commercial buildings into residential units, and improving public transport links to satellite towns, can also substantially increase housing availability. These strategies may offer more balanced urban development without the safety concerns associated with high-rise construction.
In conclusion, while I recognise that high-rise buildings can help alleviate housing shortages in densely populated cities, I disagree that they represent the single best solution. Their suitability depends on site-specific factors, and a combination of alternative measures may prove equally effective while mitigating the risks involved.
