with the market being the unholy disaster it is right now and into the foreseeable future, making sure your hardware doesn't catch fire or otherwise break in some manner is growing increasingly important, making this process genuinely something I recommend.

I would like to give a PSA: UNDERVOLT YOUR PC'S GRAPHICS CARD. IT IS RELATIVELY EASY, AND MAKES YOUR PC USE LESS POWER, PRODUCE LESS HEAT, AND LITERALLY EXTENDS YOUR COMPONENTS' LIFESPAN SIGNIFICANTLY, ALL THE WHILE FREQUENTLY EVEN GIVING A PERFORMANCE UPLIFT FOR GPUS.
This is not without cost, mind you, as lowering the voltage without slowing the card down can cause crashes, but that can be fixed simply by bumping the voltage up a small bit from where you settle on. Here's a general guide for how to undervolt on windows:
https://egpu.io/forums/gpu-monitor-peripherals/guide-how-to-undervolt-your-gpu-windows-only/
For linux, it's still kind of a mess, as the APIs in nvidia's drivers for voltage control literally only got added as of MAY OF THIS YEAR, but the tool you use is called LACT, and generally just follow the same steps as MSI afterburner, just in that.
