From The Signs Of The Softness Of The Heart Of The Believer
Ibn Al-Qayyim [رحمه الله] said:
«من دلائل رقة قلب المؤمن، أن يتوجع لعثرة أخيه المؤمن إذا عثر، حتى كأنه هو الذي عثر بها، ولا يشمت به.»
❝From the signs of the softness of the heart of the believer is that when his Muslim brother falls and stumbles, the believer feels pain due to this, so much so that it is as if he himself fell and stumbled, and he should not rejoice at his tragedy.❞

Abu Bakr Bin Al-Arabi said that Tartooshi said to him:
«إِذَا عَرَضَ لَكَ أمرُ دُنْيَا وَأَمرُ آخِرَة، فَبَادِرْ بِأَمرِ الآخِرَة، يَحْصُلْ لَكَ أَمرُ الدُّنْيَا وَالأُخْرَى.»
❝If a worldly matter and a matter of the Hereafter is presented to you, then hasten with the matter of the Hereafter. Like this you will acquire both the worldly matter and of the Hereafter.❞

❝Whoever fasts the day of Arafat he is forgiven for the following year and the previous year. And whoever fasts ‘Ashura then he is forgiven the year.❞

| 6 | Deeds Which Are Equal To The Reward Of Hajj
Abu Umamah narrated that the Messenger of Allaah [ﷺ] said:
«مَنْ خَرَجَ مِنْ بَيْتِهِ مُتَطَهِّرًا إِلَى صَلَاةٍ مَكْتُوبَةٍ فَأَجْرُهُ كَأَجْرِ الْحَاجِّ الْمُحْرِمِ، وَمَنْ خَرَجَ إِلَى تَسْبِيحِ الضُّحَى لَا يَنْصِبُهُ إِلَّا إِيَّاهُ فَأَجْرُهُ كَأَجْرِ الْمُعْتَمِرِ، وَصَلَاةٌ عَلَى أَثَرِ صَلَاةٍ لَا لَغْوَ بَيْنَهُمَا كِتَابٌ فِي عِلِّيِّينَ.»
❝Whoever leaves his home having Wudu going to pray the obligatory prayer then his reward is equal to the person performing Hajj whilst in the state of Ihram.
Whoever goes out to pray the Dhuha prayer in the Masjid nothing tires him out except that then his reward is that of a person performing Umrah.
Praying a prayer after another prayer where no falsehood takes place between them then that is written in the Book of good deeds.❞

The Scholar of Hadeeth, Shaykh AbdulMuhsin Al-Abbad [حفظه الله] commented:
❝This means, that whoever performed Wudu and went out to the Masjid wanting to perform a prayer from the obligatory prayers, which Allaah has obligated upon him, which are the five prayers. For this, his reward is like the reward of a person in the state of Ihraam performing the Hajj who wears the clothing of Hajj.
This means, that Allaah [تعالى] rewards the similar to a person in the state of Ihraam Performing the Hajj.
One person went out to perform an obligatory prayer and the person in the state of Ihraam went out to perform a great worship, so the reward of that person is similar to the reward of this person. Allaah’s virtue is vast.❞

| 10 | Hajj And Umrah Will Continue Even After The Coming Of Gog And Magog!
Upon the authority of Abu Sa’eed Al Khudri [رضي الله عنه] who said:
❝Indeed Hajj and Umra will be made to the house [I.e. The Ka’bah] after Gog and Magog appear!❞

| 12 | Whoever Missed Out On Performing Hajj This Year
Al-Fudayl Ibn Ayaad [رحمه الله] said:
❝Whoever missed out standing in Arafat this year, then he should establish Allaah's rights which a person knows.
Whoever was too weak and incapable of spending the night in Muzdalifah, then he should spend the night with the resolve and determination of being obedient to Allaah and with that he comes close and nearer to Allaah.
Whoever does not have the power and ability to stand and pray at the area of Khayf [in Mina], then he should stand for Allaah with fulfilling the right of hope and fear.
Whoever does not have the capability to slaughter his sacrificial animal at Mina, then he should slaughter his whims and desires here and reaches what he aims for.
Whoever cannot reach the House [the Ka’ba] because it is far from him, then he should have the intent of the Lord of the House, since He is closer to the One who calls and has hope in Him, than the jugular vein.❞

| 13 | The Excellence Of The Day Of ‘Arafah
Allaah, The Most High states in His Book:
﴿وَالْيَوْمِ الْمَوْعُودِ وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُود﴾
❝And by the Promised Day [i.e. the Day of Resurrection]; And by the witnessing day [i.e. Friday], and by the witnessed day [i.e. the day of 'Arafat [Hajj] the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah]…❞

From Abee Hurairah [رضي الله عنه] who said that the Prophet [ﷺ] said:
❝The Promised Day is: The Day of Resurrection; and the day which is witnessed is: the day of ‘Arafah; and the witness is: the day of Friday. And the sun has not risen nor has it set upon a day that is better than it. In it is an hour in which a believing servant does not coincide supplicating to Allaah for good – except that Allaah will answer him; and nor does he seek refuge from anything except Allaah will grant him refuge from it.❞

❝Upon this basis; if the day of ‘Arafah falls on a Friday – then there is incorporated into that day the witness and the witnessed.❞

From ‘Umar Bin Al-Khattaab [رضي الله عنه] that a man from the Jews said to him:
❝'O leader of the believers; there is an Aayah in your Book which you read; if it had been revealed to the like of us Jews then we would have taken that day as an ‘Eid.' So he said: 'which Aayah is that?' he said:
﴿الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ الْإسْلامَ دِينًا﴾
«This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favour upon you and have chosen for you Islaam as your religion» [Al-Maa-idah: 3]
So ‘Umar said: 'Indeed we know of that day as well as the place in which it was revealed upon the Prophet [ﷺ] - and he was standing at ‘Arafaat on a Friday.'❞

From ‘Aisha [رضي الله عنها] who said that the Messenger of Allaah [ﷺ] said:
❝There is no day in which Allaah sets free more slaves from the Hell-Fire than He does on the Day of ‘Arafah.❞

| 14 | Regarding the saying of Allaah, The Most High:
﴿وَيَذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ فِي أَيَّامٍ مَّعْلُومَاتٍ﴾
«And they mention the name of Allaah on known days» [Al-Hajj: 28]

Al-Haafidh Ibn Katheer mentioned that Ibn ‘Abbaas [رضي الله عنه] said:
❝The known days – they are the ten days.❞

Al-Baghawee [رحمه الله] said:
❝Meaning: the ten of Dhil-Hijjah in the saying of the majority of the Mufassireen. They are referred to as ‘known’ due to the eagerness of knowing them by way of their calculation due to the time of the Hajj occurring at the end of them.❞

Ibn Rajab said:
❝The majority of the scholars hold that these ‘known days’ are the ten of Dhil-Hijjah, from them are: Ibn ‘Umar and Ibn ‘Abbaas and Al-Hasan [Al-Basree] and ‘Ataa and Mujaahid and ‘Ikrimah and Qataadah and An-Nakha’ee. It is also the saying of Abee Haneefah and Ash-Shaafi’ee and Ahmad [Bin Hanbal] in that which is well known from them.❞

Ibn Rajab said:
❝Imaam Al-Bukhaaree reports in his Saheeh¹ from the Hadeeth of Ibn ‘Abbaas that the Prophet [ﷺ] said: 'There are no days wherein the righteous action is more beloved to Allaah than these ten' Meaning the ten days. They said: 'O Messenger of Allaah, not even Jihaad in the path of Allaah?' so he said: 'Not even Jihaad in the path of Allaah, except for a man who goes out with his person and his wealth, and then he did not return with anything from that.'
This Hadeeth proves that actions carried out during its days are more beloved to Allaah than the carrying out of actions during the other days of the world without there being any exception from them. Therefore if they are the most beloved to Allaah; then they are also the best with Him.❞

Al-Haafidh Ibn Hajar [رحمه الله] said:
❝That which is apparent is that the reason for the distinguished nature of the ten days of Dhil-Hijjah is due to the fact that it is the place where the main forms of worship come together; and they are: the prayer and the fasting and the giving of charity and the Hajj – and that does not appear in other than them.❞

From Jaabir Bin ‘Abdillaah [رضي الله عنه] who said that the Prophet [ﷺ] said:

| 15 | Shaykh Al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah [رحمه الله] said:
❝The first ten days of Dhūl-Hijjah are more virtuous than the last ten days of Ramadhān. The last ten nights of Ramadhān are more virtuous than the last ten nights of Dhūl-Hijjah.❞

| 17 | The Excellence Of The First Ten Days Of Dhil-Hijjah
Allaah, The Most High stated:
﴿وَالْفَجْرِ وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ﴾
«By the dawn. And by the ten nights» [Al-Fajr: 1-2]

Ibn Katheer [رحمه الله] said:
❝The ten nights; what is meant by it is the ten of Dhil-Hijjah as was mentioned by Ibn ‘Abbaas and Ibn Az-Zubair and Mujaahid and more than one person from the Salaf and those who came later.❞

Ibn Al-Qayyim [رحمه الله] said:
❝Therefore a period of time which is inclusive of the likes of these actions is worthy that The Lord – The Mighty and Majestic should swear an oath by it.❞

Ibn Rajab [رحمه الله] said regarding the excellence of these days:
❝From their excellence is that Allaah swore an oath by them wholly; and by some of it in particular, He, The Most High said:
﴿وَالْفَجْرِ وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ﴾
«By the dawn. And by the ten nights»
As for the dawn; then it has been said: He intended the type of dawn, and it has been said: the intent is the appearance of dawn or the dawn prayer or the day in its entirety – there is a difference concerning it among the Mufassireen. It has been said: what is intended by it is a specific dawn, then it was said: what is intended by it is the dawn of the first day of the ten [days] of Dhil-Hijjah, and it has been said: rather what is intended by it is the dawn of the last day from amongst them – and it is the day of An-Nahr. Upon the basis of all of these statements; the ten then are comprising of the dawn by way of which Allaah swore an oath by.
As for the ten nights; then they are the ten of Dhil-Hijjah – and this is what is correct and that which the majority of the Mufassireen were upon from amongst the Salaf and other than them. It is likewise authentically reported from Ibn ‘Abbaas, it has been reported from him from more than one standpoint.❞

Shaykh ‘Abdur-Rahmaan As-Sa’dee [رحمه الله] said:
❝In the [first] ten days of Dhil-Hijjah is the standing in ‘Arafah, wherein Allaah forgives His servants with forgiveness that causes Satan to grieve.¹ For indeed; Satan is not seen to be more ignoble nor more driven away than on the day of ‘Arafah, due to that which he sees from the descending of the Angels and mercy from Allaah for His servants. Likewise there occurs within them many actions from the performance of the Hajj and the ‘Umrah; these are great affairs which are deserving that Allaah should swear an oath by them [the days].❞

¹The virtue of the day of ‘Arafah is mentioned in a Hadeeth in which the Prophet [ﷺ] said:

| 18 | The Recommendation Of Performing Righteous Actions Within The First Ten Days Of Dhil-Hijjah, And How The Salaf Were Within Them
Ibn Al-Qayyim [رحمه الله] said:
❝They are the ten days by which Allaah swore an oath by in His Book in His saying:
﴿وَالْفَجْرِ وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ﴾
«By the dawn. And by the ten nights»
Due to this it is recommended that the Takbeer and the Tahleel and the Tahmeed be made plentifully within them.❞

Ibn Rajab [رحمه الله] said:
❝As for the recommendation in being plentiful in the remembrance [of Allaah] within them; then it is proved by the saying of Allaah, The Mighty and Majestic:
﴿وَيَذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ فِي أَيَّامٍ مَّعْلُومَاتٍ﴾
«And they mention the name of Allaah on known days» [Al-Hajj: 28]
For indeed the known days are the ten days with the majority of the Scholars.❞

Imaam An-Nawawee [رحمه الله] said:
❝Know that it is recommended to be plentiful in making Adhkaar [remembrance of Allaah] during these ten [days] – in excess of other than them. It is likewise recommended to do that on the day of ‘Arafah more-so than the rest of the ten [days].❞

❝It has reached us from Saalim Bin ‘Abdillaah Bin ‘Umar [رضي الله عنه], that he saw a petitioner asking from the people on the day of ‘Arafah, so he said: ‘O feeble one! On this day is other than Allaah, The Mighty and Majestic to be asked from?’❞

‘Abdur-Rahmaan Ibn Abee Haatim said: I heard my father [Aboo Haatim Ar-Raazee] say:
❝I came to Yahya Bin Ma’een during the ten days – the ten of Dhil-Hijjah, and with me was something written down – meaning the names of those that transmit the narrations, and so I would ask him [concerning them] in secrecy, and he would respond to me. So when I exceeded much upon him he said: ‘is it written down with you?’ I said: ‘yes’, so he took it and looked at and then said: ‘on days such as this? And the mention of people within them?’ then he refused to answer me [my questions]. He said: ‘If you had asked me something from your memory; I would have answered you, as for you having it in writing; then I dislike it.’❞

The Prophet [ﷺ] said about fasting on the day of ’Arafah for those not performing the Hajj:
❝It expiates sins of the previous year as well as the following year.❞

| 19 | The Command Of Allaah To Obey Him & Obey His Messenger
Allaah said:
﴿لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ لِمَنْ كَانَ يَرْجُو اللَّهَ وَالْيَوْمَ الْآخِرَ وَذَكَرَ اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا﴾
«Indeed in the Messenger of Allaah you have a good example to follow for him who hopes for [the Meeting with] Allaah and the Last Day, and remembers Allaah much.» [Qur’ān, (33:21)]

Ibn Katheer said:
❝This noble Ayaah is a major principle in taking the Messenger of Allaah [ﷺ] as an example to follow.
Following him in his statements, his actions and his matters.
This is why Allaah [تبارك وتعالى] commanded the people to take the Prophet [ﷺ] as an example on the day of Al-Ahzab [the battle of the trench when all the tribes gathered to fight the Muslims] in regards to his patience, forbearance, determination, his striving and waiting for relief from his Lord [عز و جل].❞

| 20 | Delight In Dealing With People
Shaykh ul-Islam Ibn Taymeeyah [رحمه الله] said:
❝Delight in dealing with people is by:
1 - Is that you deal with them for the sake of Allaah so you have hope in Allaah for them and that you do not have hope in the people instead of Allaah.
2 - That you fear Allaah in regards to the people and that you do not fear the people instead of Allaah.
3 - Be generous to the people hoping for a reward from Allaah, and not hoping for reward from the people.
4 - Refrain from oppressing them fearing Allaah and not from fearing the people.❞
