Over 30 men have been executed in eastern Libya since 23 August after being sentenced to death in secretive military trials, and at least 50 more face the same fate. Amnesty International reports the defendants were tortured by LAAF-affiliated armed groups to extract "confessions" that were then used as evidence against them.
The killings began two weeks after LAAF intelligence chief Fawzi al-Mansouri was killed in Benghazi. The executions, carried out under Khalifa Haftar's forces, ended Libya's 15-year de facto moratorium on the death penalty. Families of the executed were denied burial rights - bodies were kept by authorities and funerals forbidden.

57 years ago, 27th September 1969, Imam Abdullah Haron died after 123 days of solitary confinement and interrogation, with bruises on his body and broken ribs, presumed to have been tortured by the Security Branch of the South African Police Force of the apartheid regime. The official inquest said he died 'falling down a flight of stairs'.
Imam Haron, was an Imam and anti-apartheid activist. He is best known for his anti-apartheid activism.
40,000 people carried the coffin of Imam Abdullah Haron for about 10km (six miles) to his final resting place in Mowbray Muslim Cemetery in Cape Town.
