There are two broad ways in which people engage with history.
Some approach history primarily through its injustices, failures, and darker chapters. They may allow the wrongs of the past to shape their perceptions of entire societies, communities, or civilizations, sometimes turning historical grievances into lasting prejudices.
Others try to engage with history more constructively. They acknowledge its injustices and mistakes, but also identify the ideas, institutions, values, achievements, and lessons that remain relevant—and seek to apply those insights to the present.A mature understanding of history requires both: the courage to confront the wrongs of the past and the wisdom to preserve and apply what was valuable. History should neither be romanticized nor weaponized; it should be understood, learned from, and used to build a wiser present.
