They capitalized on the assumption that the country they were colonizing or invading was filled with stupid barbarians, who could never possibly gainrp the ability to learn their language, thus never being able to express the horrors that the colonizers were doing to them

Learning a colonizers language was a survival method, as being able to communicate in their language, and thus possibly being seriously by them can appeal to their humanity, and they begin to humanize you subconsciously, because they will feel as if you’re on their intellectual level (since most colonizers feel as if their language is the superior language)

But this method has been used multiple times historically, especially to colonize other countries.

I’ve spoken about the medical perspective before, when I talked about how really, it’s a doctors duty to know at least a few languages, in case a patient can’t fully communicate with them unless they speak a specific language

This is something that occurs very commonly in daily life, especially within the medical field, but how does this really affect society as a whole? This inability allows for injustice, and corruption to take place, as the listeners can easily begin to twist the speakers words, and use this weakness against them, purposely misunderstanding, purposely finding loopholes

Theres this thing called hermeneutical injustice, which is experiencing something but not having the vocabulary, or the ability to express this experience in a way that can be understood, or taken seriously by others
