November 3, 2015 The Bunker Journal — Entry #102 I think the weirdest part about hunting monsters is realizing that the most impossible things eventually become normal. A few years ago, I would have laughed if someone told me I'd spend my evenings in an underground bunker, surrounded by ancient books, cursed objects, and people who casually say things like "we fought a god last week." Now? I mostly just ask who forgot to buy coffee. Today was supposed to be a simple research day. It wasn't. Nothing is ever simple when Sam Winchester says "I found something interesting." That sentence should honestly come with a warning label. Sam spent hours buried in books, trying to connect old legends with a new case. Dean kept pretending he wasn't interested while very obviously listening from across the room. And Castiel... Castiel was trying to understand why humans keep sentimental objects. He picked up one of my old notebooks and asked: "Why do you keep recording these moments?" I told him because memories are proof that we were here. That even after all the monsters, all the losses, and all the things we couldn't save... there were still moments worth remembering. He was quiet for a while. Then he said: "I think that is a very human thing." Coming from an angel, that was probably the closest thing to a compliment. Later, Dean stole my food, Sam apologized for him, and Castiel tried to explain that stealing was technically wrong but "emotionally complicated." A normal night in the bunker. I used to think surviving meant becoming stronger. But maybe surviving is also about finding people who make the darkness a little less dark. The world is still terrifying. There are still monsters.
