Dear Director, Re: Request to Permanently Remove Welcome to Country Ceremonies from Anzac Day Commemorations, Effective 2026 I respectfully but firmly request that the RSL discontinue Welcome to Country ceremonies at all Anzac Day services nationwide, starting in 2026. Anzac Day is our most solemn national occasion for honouring Australian service personnel who have defended our country under one flag, the Australian flag. From a population of fewer than five million, over 416,000 Australians enlisted in the First World War. More than 60,000 were killed and 156,000 were wounded, gassed, or taken prisoner. Including a Welcome to Country on this day makes it political and undermines that. It can suggest that veterans, serving members, and descendants of those who served are outsiders requiring formal welcome to the land they and their forebears fought to defend. This creates an inappropriate and contradictory message on a day dedicated to shared national remembrance. Anzac Day should focus solely on honouring all who have worn the Australian uniform, without preferential recognition of any racial or ancestral group. While the presence of Aboriginal people is acknowledged prior to 1788, recognition must be given to the generations of Australians who built our cities, towns, and nation. Many veterans and community members find the practice inappropriate and diminishing on this sacred day. It shifts focus from military service and sacrifice, and for some, evokes a sense of exclusion. As custodian of Anzac traditions, the RSL has a duty to lead with unity. I urge you to remove Welcome to Country ceremonies from Anzac Day events to re-affirm the day as one that belongs purely to our ANZACS. Thank you for your attention. I would welcome your response. Yours sincerely, [Your Full Name]

📣CALL TO ACTION📣 Anzac Day Dawn Service is not the place for Welcome to Country! This is our most solemn, unifying moment to honour every Australian who served and sacrificed under our flag. Many Australians and veterans are strongly against including any welcome to country or acknowledgement of country at Anzac Day dawn services. This has been expressed publicly over the years and has caused heated debates and controversy. In 2020, RSL WA made headlines after banning WTC, based off member feedback, only to reverse the decision shortly after. In 2025, Jacob Hersant, Michael Nelson and Nathan Bull were in Melbourne when they and other patriots showed their discontent with WTC at Melbourne's dawn service by booing, they have been charged with behaving in an offensive manner. Peter Dutton also made headlines stating that many veterans do not want WTC on Anzac Day. Controversy, public pushback, and a growing sense that the day meant for remembrance is being politicised. Is it really worth it? ANZAC day must remain pure, focused, and free from modern woke rituals that take the focus away from what the day is for. Decisions are made by local RSL sub-branches and event organisers, not a central authority. However, RSL Australia and many state branches actively support and encourage WTC and provide suggested order of service with a WTC listed. This is a day to honour and remember all, so why do we need to have a ceremony included which only caters to a small minority of people. Call to action, let’s make our voices heard: 🇦🇺 Contact your local RSL sub-branch today. 🇦🇺 Make a respectful but firm request and complaint. Demand they keep Welcome to Country out of the dawn service. 🇦🇺 Flood RSL Australia with emails: enquiries@rsl.org.au Include the blank image below to your email if you like. (I'll include a sample email in the comments for you to copy and paste, or you can write your own.) Tell them to stop guiding branches toward this and keep ANZAC Day focused on the ANZACs. Our fallen deserve better. The veterans who oppose this deserve to be heard. Let’s protect the spirit of the dawn service before it changes forever. Lest We Forget. Share if you stand for keeping Anzac Day sacred. #AnzacDay #LestWeForget #FightForAustralia #FFA #MFA #MarchForAustralia
