 Shaykh Abū al-Faḍl Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar al-Ṣuwayʿī (May Allah preserve him):
“My amazement at some people continues to grow. When I was refuting al-Sadiq al-Gharyani, they went to our Shaykh Rabīʿ and told him that I was attacking the ruler, and that the ruler was al-Sadiq al-Gharyani. Our Shaykh Rabīʿ said: “He is not a ruler, and criticising him is correct.”
Some of the Libyan students of knowledge then sat with al-Gharyani and left him saying, “By Allah, he accepts advice,” and they continued communicating with him.
These matters are not known to the youth. Now they have contradicted what they themselves believe and have begun responding to their own ruler. Thus, it has become clear that the matters are political/state-related and are not based upon evidence.
