Many people use these like they are the same, but there is a simple rule. Let's fix it once and for all!

🟢❌❌❌❌❌Say We use "say" when we focus on the words that were spoken. We usually don't mention who we are talking to.

Example: "She said that she was tired.", "What did you say?"

🟢❌❌❌❌❌Tell We use "tell" when we focus on the person getting the information. We almost always need an object (someone) after "tell".

Example: "She told me that she was tired." (Not: "She told that...") "Can you tell us a story?"
