In other words these opportunities disappear almost as quickly as they start to appear in those markets
And this is probably only possible for a mere mortal to really exploit in slow/illiquid markets. In fast markets bots and many other large investors and institutions playing the same kind of game make the market too efficient to make this strategy very effective/worthwhile
So effectively I value my entire portfolio (even though presently not holding any though could change and I hope it will in the future) in UTYA and not in USD.
I think you can apply this kind of thinking to any market/sector that you believe is going to rise. Identify the leader and value the others against it + exploit dislocations from mean ratios to accumulate more value/market share as measured in supply of the market leader
If I were starting today with a fresh $10k gram wallet, would be a different story and I’d prob allocate a larger portion of it to Utah and then the remainder to others, but since I’ve realized a number of multiples from Utya already, risking those profits into higher beta plays in the face of the gramsupercycle makes more sense for my specific context
Even in the case of my rotation from Utya to redo, I’m willing to accept if Utya runs to 1bln and redo dies (highly highly improbable imo), believing that the rest of my portfolio + a lagging/dying redo will still put me in a good position when Utya is at 1, 3, 5 bln mcap rather than just holding only Utya with no exposure to anything else.
More probable to me is that Utya goes to 100mil first (basically a 2x from where I sold it) and redo + my other coins do more than a 2x from my avg entry on each of them
for example, I saw the buybot in the yoda chat going insane the other day during a massive capitulation dip. I saw that one of my other larger positions was holding its ground above my previous entry level and taking much less of a hit than yoda and also the rest of the market. So I decided to take a chance on rotating some of it into that giant yoda wick down.
There is always risk involved to playing it like this but in such cases I make up my mind that if I am still holding x% of the coin that I am harvesting in the end and it runs to the 10's, 100's of millions+ and the coin that I am buying goes to zero, I will still feel good about my position, it's a chance I'm willing to take for another coin to secure supply of another lottery ticket position to the moon.
and one more point here is that it would be a different story if my strategy was to simply scale out of positions into gram/usd permanently with every pump, but my goals are to accumulate increasing supply of every GRAM meme/project that I like.
so usually the trigger for me to rotate is a big capitulation dip on a coin that I've been watching that will allow me to buy with size (and even if I sell some of one thing today, ideally I will buy more than I previously had if/when it dips relative to other coins).
Because I am not generally adding new funds to buy on these dips, the funds to buy will come from another position that I'm holding which is high relative to the one that is bleeding + others in the market in general + my initial entry on the coin that I sell (many times if I am up more than double it is very easy for me now psychologically to cut the position by an amount that recovers the capital invested at my entry price while leaving a moon bag of significant size)
I'm sure that there is precedent for this kind of approach/someone can probably articulate it better than I can (arbitraging would be a high level way to describe I guess), but kind of is like trimming the tallest poppy in the field and watering the smallest one hoping to grow more plants to maturity or something like that.
Once GRAM/my portfolio meet certain targets, I would only then start to permanently scale out
Hope this strategy will be helpful to someone out there
and even sometimes my transfers themselves are sniped, so many of the times that I do sell from my main is for the fear of that happening - bc in general I do not want to hurt projects/other people when it can be avoided.
and if you still don't see it as a good opportunity to enter/make a trade, then you need to consider the possibility that it might have been a good buy/sell from me
when volume continues to pick up on this chain, it won't be noticeable anymore. Before then, consider the blood on the chart from my sells a great potential buying opp, and same going the other direction (if you dare)
learned this lesson many times over the years based on empiricism/experience of having it happen - so please hold your theories and condemnations until you've lived it
requires me to act decisively and rotate in and out of positions with size - if I small lesser amounts, I get sniped and the level/profit/buy window is lost for me to exit/enter w the intended size
The main reasons that I do this are that
1) I know that people will attempt to front-run/snipe if I try to dca in or out of positions
2) Knowing the above, if it’s a project and people that I respect, I don’t want the sell to be broadcast publicly
Is easy for people to talk shit but need to consider walking a mile in my shoes and that we are operating under very different circumstances given the above and the amount of capital that is being managed.
Was trying to be a nice guy about not broadcasting sales but if I am gonna get shot on for that, well yeah gotta be more transparent with what the reality is
Also completely sold out of a 2% supply position on grinch around 7-800k that I accumulated sub 200k (buying and selling across multiple wallets but any chain sleuths out there can piece it together and find it to be true).
Maybe I’ll re-enter at some point and maybe not.
Welcome to trading and thinking for yourself.
I encourage you to be this guy though bc when you are running with the pack the pack leader does not have your best interests at heart.
He usually just is looking for exit liquidity.
That’s why they all get upset when they see another guy thinking for himself and making x’s.
Sets a dangerous precedent- an environment in which he actually needs to compete on skill.
lots of days I feel like this guy around here (felt the same in corp america tbh lol)
the good thing is, I know how it ends
😎
