“If forbidding a prohibited matter (Taghyīr al-Munkar) would lead to something that is even more severely prohibited, then it should not be forbidden; and it is impermissible to do so. For this reason, it is not allowed to denounce an evil with something that is a greater evil. And for this reason, it is forbidden to revolt against the rulers with the sword under the pretext of enjoining good and forbidding evil, because what results from that; such as committing prohibited acts and abandoning obligations, is greater than the evil and sins committed by the rulers themselves. Likewise, if a group of people are upon an innovation or immorality, and forbidding them would lead to a greater harm or evil than what they are already upon, and it is not possible to prevent them nor to achieve an overriding benefit through the prohibition, then they are not to be forbidden.

“No one should speak without knowledge. Rather, one must beware of those who speak about religious matters without understanding and those who address intellectual matters without insight. Some people, claiming to support religion with their deficient intellects and flawed reasoning, end up doing more harm; their actions have given atheists, the enemies of religion, a reason to criticize. Thus, they neither supported Islām nor defeated its enemies.”

All of his drafts and papers were sent to the Al-ʿĀdiliyyah Library, and that amounted to approximately sixty volumes. Thereafter—may Allah have mercy upon him—he began writing with charcoal. This caused him considerable pain, and he would say:
❝The removal of the books from my possession is among the greatest of afflictions.❞
Yet he remained steadfast and made use of charcoal. This indicates the strength of his resolve. Despite the fact that he completed the recitation of the Qur'an eighty times during the period of his residence in the Citadel, after this shock only a short time remained, for he died—may Allah have mercy upon him—on Monday, the twentieth of Dhū al-Qaʿdah in the year 728 AH. May Allah have mercy upon him with a vast mercy. 📖 حياة شيخ الإسلام ابن تيمية | محمد بهجة البيطار And it was in that same citadel that Shaykh al-Muḥaddith Muhammad Nasir al-Din al-Albani رحمه الله was also imprisoned.

“As for your claim that the interpretation of (al-Qayyūm) is ‘the One who neither leaves His place nor moves,’ this interpretation will not be accepted from you unless it is supported by an authentic narration transmitted from the Rasūl of Allāh ﷺ, or from some of his Ṣaḥābah, or the Tābiʿīn. This is because al-Ḥayy al-Qayyūm does whatever He wills: He moves if He wills, descends if He wills, ascends if He wills; He grasps and lets go, rises and sits if He wills. The distinguishing sign between the living and the dead is movement: every living being moves without exception, and every dead being is unmoving without exception.”

الزهد للإمام أحمد (١٦٦٦)📚

Do we have anything that prevents us from victory? I say: We do not have anything that obliges us to victory. Many Muslim rulers are not satisfied to rule by the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, and many Muslim rulers persecute the believers in Allah and His Messenger, and they find fault with them only for believing in Allah, the Mighty, the Praiseworthy. And many Muslim markets are drunk in wine and women are consumed therein. And many Muslim rulers have open allegiance to the enemies of Allah. So can Allah's victory be for these? Never, these may be more deserving of abandonment than the pure disbelievers; for the disbelievers are disbelievers, but these belong to Islam and they do not believe in Islam in truth, and for that they have cast the Book of Allah behind their backs except whom Allah wills.
