He has announced the fuel excise will be halved for a period of 3 mths. A cut in the excise was something I myself proposed weeks ago. Why did it take him so long to act? However, this is not enough. Action needs to be taken to ensure our nation never faces this problem again. If anything, this crisis has shown how vulnerable our nation truly is because of the failings of leadership. We need refineries built once more, oil fields to be mined, so we can be energy independent. As it stands now, all it would take to cripple our nation is for a hostile country to blockade shipping lanes, and we would be in serious trouble very quickly.
