Instead of empty phrases such as “aristocracy of the soul,” “of the blood,” “of the spirit,” “of the mind,” “of the intellect,” or “of the word”, phrases we prefer as instruments of self-deception and deception of others, let us speak of an aristocracy of the deed, the only real and manifest form of aristocracy, in which every other form of aristocracy finds its embodiment.

Those who object to the massacre of animals for their meat and substance out of sheer delicacy of feeling should thank God that it is so; otherwise, we humans might have resorted to massacring one another for the same purpose.

For all eternity, no human brain will be subtle enough to build anything more than a machine, to which every organic and physiological process is infinitely superior, even in terms of the outward facade, that is, flexibility, versatility, dexterity, freedom of movements. The hype about the danger of machines displacing humans is merely entrepreneurial marketing by means of instilling fear.

There exists a subtle correspondence between the processes of the body and those of the psyche. Growth, development, anabolism, energetic abundance, and the condition of thriving rather than merely surviving tend to find their psychological counterparts in heightened feelings of power, self-confidence, courage, mastery, and the instinct to command. The flourishing organism interprets its own vitality as possibility; its surplus of energy appears inwardly as confidence, ambition, and the willingness to impose form upon the world. Conversely, stunted growth, arrested development, catabolism, malnutrition, starvation, and chronic deprivation frequently coincide with psychic states of depression, pessimism, timidity, fear, and a general contraction before life itself. The organism struggling merely to preserve its own integrity is less inclined toward expansion than toward withdrawal, caution, and self-protection. In this sense, psychological life may be understood, at least in part, as an interpretation of bodily events. Consciousness does not invent its moods ex nihilo; rather, it translates the body’s condition into meanings, valuations (powerful versus weak, good versus bad), and dispositions. Feelings of strength or weakness, hope or despair, confidence or resignation, are often the psyche’s interpretation of the body’s success or failure in sustaining, nourishing, and augmenting itself. The history of one’s inner life is therefore inseparable from the history of one’s metabolism, development, and relation to the conditions that permit genuine flourishing.

The archetype of the Crucified attests no more to the existence of a historical personage than it does to the existence of an archetype or a symbol embodying the universality of suffering, one that demands recognition and, consequently, the solidarity of those who recognize it.

I do not understand the resentment against wealthy people, from ancient times to the present, especially toward those who have built their fortunes with their own hands. To such an extent, one often sees them portrayed as evil, psychopathic, or by other undefined terms that cloak resentment and embittered dispositions in the appearance of scientific validity. Such resentment is, in my view, far more harmful to the poor and the average person than almost anything else, and constitutes a much greater hindrance to them. Indeed, I would be inclined to say that, if one were to examine the wealthy closely, one might find among them some of the most competent, intelligent, moral, and knowledgeable people of all. Poverty, as I use the term here, excluding voluntary asceticism, when accompanied by a genuine desire for wealth and the inability to attain it, can give rise to countless spiritual maladies: an existential horizon within which the resentful poor person lives, yet does not fully live, insofar as his existence comes to be determined by those whom he resents.

Nepotism destroys the country in which it takes root, without anyone having to lift a finger against it. For what is lost by its operation? Merit, distinction, severe objectivity, intelligent evaluation, and the qualifications actually required for a given task. Those who are disqualified in the eyes of such institutions, simply because they were not selected, need not trouble themselves with resentment: institutions founded upon corrupt nepotism contain within themselves the conditions of their own destruction. They destroy themselves swiftly, for where nepotism prevails, merit is displaced, mediocrity is protected, and only the mediocre is permitted to flourish, if one were to survey the history of any great civilization, it was precisely those conditions that brought a nation to global prominence and dignity on an international scale.

The greatest impostures, and the ones you should trust least, are those who seize every opportunity to broadcast their virtue, piety, purity or depth. regardless of the conceptual crudity of such notions, Someone who truly possesses a quality has no need to keep displaying it. He lives it. It consumes him in its blazing fire, leaving no room to put it on show, unless he means to turn his virtues and personal ethics into a marketplace and profit from them, or using them to compensate psychologically for something he lacks, because the consciousness of their absence pains him.

It is, as well, another form of the latent condition of human parasitism. The marginal economic evaluation, and indeed the sole justification, of such occupations would be to consider their overall contribution to the economy of the sector to which they belong. Yet, from an ontological point of view, they are a testimony to the existential worthlessness of the human being in question.

Of all the manners in which one might perish, an unconsummated death, whether inflicted accidentally upon oneself or by another, is perhaps among the most poetic, if one considers it seriously. Methinks that burning, in particular, possesses a peculiar significance: it means leaving an eternal imprint upon the physiognomy of another without, however, annihilating them. It is a kind of proof of an impending victory over death: that one engages with it momentarily without however being consumed by it, to leave one’s mark upon a face and, through it, upon the person themselves. Added to this is the indeterminacy of the scar’s artistic potential. The newly marked face becomes something not entirely predetermined, an aesthetic object whose final form remains partly to be discovered and sculpted in time. Such a man would, in turn, be compelled to reform his ego in accordance with his newly assumed face. He could no longer wholly hinge his sense of self upon the manner in which he physiognomically appears to others; henceforth, what would matter is how he appears to himself. There is, moreover, a peculiar appeal in a distorted or deformed face: the suggestion of a hidden potential, of some dormant form lying beneath the familiar one, which the alteration has brought into view without fully determining what it is to become.
