Based on the novel (perfect blue: complete metamorphosis) the film explores the struggle of losing one’s identity and the fight to reclaim it A Japanese pop idol who retires from music to pursue acting, a big move in her career Since she worked so hard to become a performer and being an idol is a major part of who she is leaving her haunted by a persona of her former self that represent her subconscious doubts as she’s constantly questioning whether she made the right decision? At the same time she becomes a victim of an obsessive fan where a series of events begins to unfold causing her to lose her grip on reality. The film blurs the lines between dreams and reality creating a narrative that constantly challenges the viewers perception of what is real.
