“in the year 1284 on the day of John and Paul, the 26th of June, 130 children born in Hamelin were led away by a piper dressed in many-coloured clothes to Calvary close to the Koppen and were there lost." This inscription is carved on the Ratcatcher's house in the town of Hamelin, Germany.
This event is confirmed by a medieval record of the town from 1384 which states "one hundred years since our children left". The true nature of this incident remains a complete mystery to historians .
