A researcher claims his investigation found that the external firmware dependency containing Coldcard’s critical vulnerability was allegedly written by Coinkite’s own CTO, Peter Gray (@DocHex), using another online identity. He claims GitHub commit signatures link the anonymous developer “switck” directly to Gray’s personal GPG key — suggesting they were the same person. If true, this would mean the vulnerable code wasn’t simply introduced by some random external developer, but allegedly by Coldcard’s own CTO under another identity. The researcher also points to Gray’s past work involving keyloggers and remote-controlled KVM technology, raising further suspicions.
