These commands are used every day by Linux users, programmers, and cybersecurity professionals.
1. echo — Display Text
Use:
Prints text to the terminal or writes text into a file.
Bash
echo "Hello, 'your name'!"
Output:
Hello, 'your name'!
Save text into a file:
Bash
echo "Linux is awesome" > note.txt

2. grep — Search for Text
Use:
Searches for specific words or patterns in files.
Example:

grep "admin" users.txt
If users.txt contains:
"Your name"
admin
guest
Output:
admin

3. find — Find Files and Folders
Use:
Locates files or directories.
Example:

find . -name "notes.txt"
Searches from the current folder (.).

4. chmod — Change File Permissions
Use:
Controls who can read, write, or execute a file.
Example:

chmod +x script.sh
Makes script.sh executable.

Use:
Changes the owner of a file or folder.

6. head — Show the Beginning of a File
Use:
Displays the first 10 lines by default.

Show the first 5 lines:

7. tail — Show the End of a File
Use:
Displays the last 10 lines by default.

tail log.txt
Watch a log update in real time:

8. nano — Simple Text Editor
Use:
Open or edit text files directly in the terminal.

nano notes.txt
Save changes:
Ctrl + O → Save
Enter → Confirm
Ctrl + X → Exit

8. vim — Advanced Text Editor
Use:

UNDERSTANDING LINUX COMMANDS
Firstly:
Note that Linux commands are built into the operating system. You do not install most of 'em. Commands like ls, cd, pwd, and mkdir already come with almost every Linux distribution.
Some commands belong to extra packages and need to be installed (for example nmap or sqlmap), but the basic commands do not.
1) pwd — Print Working Directory
Use: Shows your current location in the filesystem.

Example output:
Plain text
/home/"your name"

2. ls — List Files and Folders
Use: Displays the contents of a directory.

ls
Show hidden files:

ls -a
Show detailed information:

3. cd — Change Directory
Use: Move from one folder to another.

Go back one folder:

5. rmdir — Remove Empty Directory
Use: Deletes an empty folder.

6. touch — Create a File
Use: Creates an empty file.
Bash
touch notes.txt

7. cp — Copy Files
Use: Copies files or directories.
Bash
cp file.txt backup.txt
Copy a folder:

cp -r myfolder backupfolder

8. mv — Move or Rename Files
Use: Moves or renames files.
Rename:

mv old.txt new.txt
Move:
Bash
mv photo.jpg Pictures/

9. rm — Remove Files
Use: Deletes files.

Delete a folder and its contents:

rm -r myfolder
NOTE:- Be careful with "rm" because deleted files may not be recoverable.
