Location: Peoria, Illinois - downtown near Four Points by Sheraton, 500 block Hamilton Boulevard Date: May 8, 2026 - around 6:35 p.m. Ashley N. Stenson aged 42 from Atlanta flew in for a wedding and met her cousin at the airport. Her ex boyfriend Cortez White, 41 from St. Louis, showed up unexpectedly, took her by force in his pickup. She texted family saying he would not let her go and threatened to kill her; relatives alerted police with full descriptions. Officers found them on the sidewalk outside the hotel. When the officer approached, White pulled a 9mm pistol, shot Ashley multiple times including in the head while standing over her. He then turned and aimed directly at the officer. The officer returned fire as White tried to flee.
