Hello fam! 👋 I was studying Software Evolution, Architecture and System Design today, and I wanted to share a really cool concept with you all. The golden rule of building strong software boils down to just two ideas: Cohesion and Coupling. Here is a breakdown that mixes the technical side with everyday logic: Cohesion (Focus on One Job) 🎯 Think about outfitting a professional kitchen. Cohesion means making sure each tool has one clear and specific purpose. A toaster that only toasts bread is highly cohesive because it does one exact job perfectly. But if you build a machine that tries to toast bread, wash dishes, and print receipts, you create a chaotic mess that is guaranteed to break. In code, a file or module should do exactly one thing. When a piece of code has a single focus, it becomes incredibly easy to test and debug because you always know exactly what is happening inside it. Coupling (How Things Connect) 🔗 While cohesion is about the inside of your code, coupling is about how different parts connect on the outside. You want your system to act like a TV and a wireless remote. This is called loose coupling. If the remote breaks, you just replace the remote; you do not throw away the whole TV! The biggest villain in programming is tight coupling. This happens when you permanently glue your core app to an outside tool like a specific database or payment system. When code is tightly coupled, changing one small feature causes the dreaded Ripple Effect where you have to hunt down and fix errors all over your project. The Magic Solution: Interfaces 🔌 The beautiful secret of software design is that improving one side naturally fixes the other. The best way to achieve this is by using Interfaces. Think of an interface like a standard electrical wall outlet. The wall does not care if you plug in a lamp or a laptop charger as long as the plug fits the standard shape. When we build our core code to rely on these standard interfaces rather than specific tools, we can swap out entire databases or services later, and our main application will not even blink 🚀! M-Pesa was built for people the industry had ignored In Kenya in the mid-2000s, most people had no bank account but many had a basic mobile phone. Somebody noticed that people were already sending each other mobile airtime as a way of transferring value, an unofficial local workaround. Instead of dismissing it, they built for it. M-Pesa let anyone send money by SMS on the cheapest phone available. It was not sophisticated technology. It solved a problem that was visible on the street to anyone who bothered to look. The advantage was not technical. It was noticing. They built for what ordinary people were already doing, instead of for what a textbook said they should want. Today M-Pesa moves billions of dollars a year, by 2012 the equivalent of roughly a quarter of Kenya's GDP in transaction volume. He has provided through amazing people, new opportunities, open doors, different initiatives, and fresh ideas. I have experienced so much favor and grace. Even in the moments when I felt I was not fully faithful, He was always there to keep me standing and moving forward. This channel is also well beyond a year old now! 🎉 I want to take a moment to say a massive thank you to every single one of you for being here and being part of this journey.
