the internet's obsession with the term "girl's girl" has just become social policing atp. somewhere along the way, "pick me" stopped meaning a woman who actively puts down other women for male validation and started meaning any woman who doesn't perform femininity in the approved way. disagree with the crowd, have the wrong interests, and suddenly you're not a girl's girl. it's fascinating because the term was supposedly meant to encourage solidarity among women. instead it has become one of the easiest ways to shame them. being called not a girl's girl functions almost like a social death sentence online. the accusation itself often matters more than whether it's actually true.
and before anyone misunderstands the point, this isn't an argument against women supporting women. it's an argument against turning support into a performance for reels and kindness into a moral requirement that women, specifically, are expected to demonstrate at all times. the issue isn't the traits themselves. the issue is when a social expectation rebranded as feminism. the irony is that the people most committed to the rhetoric of being a girl's girl are often the quickest to withdraw that generosity from women who don't fit the mold.
the "girl's girl" versus "pick me" binary isn't new. it's just the latest version of a much older pattern which is dividing women into good women and bad women according to whichever version of femininity is currently fashionable.

i think i knew from a very early age that the only thing i ever wanted from life was to die but even that seems unaccomplishable so i'll just sleep while hugging my mother and making up scenarios in my head that will be nothing like my current life
