Leaders from the East African Community (EAC) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) met in Tanzania to address the worsening conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), calling for an immediate ceasefire and a roadmap for peace within five days. Meanwhile, the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) condemned the M23 rebel group's offensive and demanded the withdrawal of Rwandan troops from the DRC. Despite diplomatic efforts, tensions between DRC President Felix Tshisekedi and Rwandan President Paul Kagame complicate negotiations, prolonging the crisis and worsening the humanitarian situation. So what The DRC has consistently advocated for African solutions to African problems, making this meeting a promising step toward a joint resolution. However, achieving long-term peace will likely require a unified African force to forcibly remove M23 from the region—an outcome Rwanda is almost certainly opposed to. #DRCConflict #AfricanUnity #HMIntelligence
