Burroughs In February 1994, for Kurt’s 27th birthday, Burroughs sent him a collaged photo of Kurt in the orgone box on a purple and white backdrop. On the back, Burroughs included a note:

October 18, 1993 - Phoenix, AZ, US Nirvana performs at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum (Arizona State Fair). The crowd reportedly booed and chanted for Nirvana during Mudhoney's opening set, prompting Kurt to chastise the crowd at the beginning of Nirvana's set, according to an attendee. After "Polly", Krist sang a bit of Aerosmith's "Dream On", followed by Kurt singing a bit of the 4 Non Blondes song "What's Up". During "Endless, Nameless", Kurt smashed one of the angel mannequins and also dove into one of the pits and came out with his guitar. At the end of the show, someone in the band took photos of the audience, and then Kurt jumped on Dave's back as he was walking offstage. The band played an abbreviated version of "Endless, Nameless," with Kurt on drums and Dave on guitar, they then concentrated on destroying Dave's drums so the tour manager would have to buy him a new drum kit. It was a 12-string model, but Kurt strung it with only five nylon strings. The guitar barely stayed in tune and had duct tape holding the tuning pegs in place.
