NatGeo filmed one lion cub called Kio for 4 years, almost 1400 days in the field, 52 expeditions in Kenya. First time ever a lion's complete rise from cub to king has been documented. One of the most expensive nature documentaries ever made, estimated around 50 million. The series drops August 19 on NatGeo and August 20 on Disney+ and Hulu, all 4 episodes at once.
The stack behind it is unreal. Jon Favreau producing, the guy who made the 1.6 billion Lion King remake and started the entire Marvel universe. Hans Zimmer on the music, who won the Oscar for the original Lion King and scored Interstellar, Gladiator and Dune. Filmed by the BBC Natural History Unit, the Planet Earth guys, the best wildlife filmmakers on the planet. Even the narrator plays Mufasa in the Lion King musical. The real Lion King made by the same people who made the fake one. All verifiable in 10 seconds.
And this is the part people underestimate. The companies behind this are billion dollar machines. Disney, National Geographic, Hulu, the BBC. Combined they push to 500M+ followers across their channels, and they didn't spend 4 years and this much money to let it launch quietly. The full marketing engine is still ahead. World Lion Day Sunday, a week of press, Favreau interviews, Zimmer content, clips everywhere, then the global premiere on the 19th and 20th. This cub is about to be all over the internet, TikTok, Instagram, news outlets, whether crypto pays attention or not.
