Here is how a mock test needs to be tackled: 1. Strict Two-Hour Simulation When you sit for a paper, replicate the actual exam hall pressure. Complete the entire paper within the two hours itself—no interruptions, no casual pauses, and no cross-checking references midway. Every decision you take must be final. 2. Deep Post-Test Post-Mortem Solving the test in two hours is barely one-third of the exercise. The real work begins after that. Dedicate 4, 5, or even 6 hours—take two to three days if required—to go through each and every question meticulously: The Sure Hits: Questions you answered correctly in the very first glance. Check whether your logic was rock-solid or if you simply got lucky. The 50:50 Dilemmas: Questions where you eliminated two options, got stuck between the remaining two, and picked the incorrect one. You must analyze your line of reasoning here—why did you tilt toward the wrong option? The Omissions of Fear: Questions where your initial instinct was right, but self-doubt or anxiety made you leave them unattempted. Integration and Value Addition Never leave a solved booklet as a standalone piece of paper. Segregate your questions cleanly: -Questions you already knew well and had notes for—ensure your concepts remain sharp. -Questions where you had conceptual or factual gaps—pull those points out immediately and add them into your static notes. -Questions based on dynamic developments—cross-reference with your current affairs booklets and plug the missing facts right there. 4. Mandatory Revision Cycles A test paper is never truly finished the day you solve it. If you don't revise the insights extracted from it, you will repeat the exact same errors under stress in the UPSC hall.
