Lets start with defining some terms, that shouldn't be too controversial right… Unfortunately definitions vary and keep changing Centric Relation isn't a magical or mystical concept. To add the definition in the post, CR is where the condyle would naturally go if the lateral pterygoid muscles relaxed and the elevator muscles contracted to close the jaw. It's the most orthopaedically stable position for the condyle under load. However this does not convey any magical or healing properties to CR. The most important aspect of CR that is relevant to us as restorative dentists is that it is a clinically useful position due to its repeatability, allowing us to change occlusal changes from a repeatable reference position. "Official" definition from Glossary of Prosthodontic Terms 9th Edition: Centric Relation acronym is CR; a maxillomandibular relationship, independent of tooth contact, in which the condyles articulate in the anterior-superior position against the posterior slopes of the articular eminences; in this position, the mandible is restricted to a purely rotary movement; from this unstrained, physiologic, maxillomandibular relationship, the patient can make vertical, lateral or protrusive movements; it is a clinically useful, repeatable reference position
