Restoring the past ⏳   When it comes to ancient architecture, we always have to keep in mind that it wasn’t only made many centuries ago but preserved by modern people too.   Just like this, Tatiana Anatolievna Romashkevich, «a living legend», contributed greatly to restoring the Saviour Church on Nereditsa Hill after WWII in 1947 ✝️ By cooperating with other specialists, they recreated the original look of the building: painted the walls a light pink colour, lowered the floor level, and, most importantly, collected the fragments of frescoes and put them back in place.   🟢Among the frescoes there are rare images with the commander (ktetor) of the church, a mascaron with the angel’s face 👼 and some graffiti with a dragon with a hand in his mouth.    All the remaining particles of frescoes are kept in storage in a restoration center. Romashkevich herself has devoted around 60 years to the process of preserving the church.    By the way, when the group first started to pick up shattered pieces of frescoes, they used unusual objects🔻 ❔So, what did they use to carry fragments of frescoes? 🤔💭   📍 Veliky Novgorod, Russia   #WeCreArtQuizzes

Oldest Newtown 🇷🇺   Find a place that has all of these: • long history, dating back to the beginning of the X century • numerous architectural sights • picturesque view of Volkhov Of course, it’s Veliky Novgorod — the place with many churches from the XII to XVI centuries.    The town is mostly famous for the Kremlin, with the Cathedral of Saint Sophia (1045-1050) and a monument “The Millennium of Russia” (1862) ☦️   The original frescos of the cathedral were made in 1103, and the one in picture 4 (Deesis) dates to the middle of the XII century. Don’t forget to walk around it, as on the western side there are the Magdeburg Gates (also XII century) with Roman bas-reliefs.   By the way, one of the distinctive features of many Novgorod’s old churches is graffiti 🗡️ Warriors, saints, sentences, horses, dragons, and even peacocks can be found on the walls and columns.    📍 Veliky Novgorod, Russia   #WeCreArtDaily

#дайджестинтересныхсобытий      Summer’s the best time to finally give your mind and body some rest. This is #WeCreArtDigest with the best places for chilling out 🏝️   📍 Kotelnicheskaya Embankment Building Apart from having a cinema «Illusion» 🎥 that was built during Soviet times, there is a really quiet courtyard. It's a tranquil oasis, where the sound of rustling leaves and distant chatter create a peaceful ambiance.    📍 The Church of Peter and Paul at the Yauzskie Gate If you take one step aside from a bustling street, you can notice yourself in a calming atmosphere. The XVIII-century church, almost complete peacefulness, and lots of greenery and a pond make up for a perfect mental rest and detox 🏞️   📍 Media Center We wouldn’t surprise you if we included Zaryadye Park in the list; however, we still couldn’t pass by. Walking under a scorching sun might be challenging, so it’s a great idea to do something else instead, like explore Russia from a bird’s-eye view.

Italy and Mauritania in one day 🦋 Sounds impossible? And what if we tell you the opposite, since the Nicholas Palace is a prime example of eclectic style, combining various motifs in one place. 🇷🇺 It was commissioned by Emperor Nicholas I for his son, Grand Duke Nicholas, and the construction began in 1853. The palace project utilized a variety of complex engineering techniques. For example, the Moorish Drawing Room, designed for smoking, has smoke vents in the ceiling that repeat the pattern of the interior. Unfortunately, not everything went smoothly ❤️‍🩹 In 1868, the elevator in which Duchess Potemkina was driving went off the top floor and broke through the marble floor. She subsequently died as a result of her injuries. After the death of the owner, the palace was put to public use. Nowadays there are many administrative rooms in the palace, and even a regular post office ✉️ 🥂For tourists, the place organises guided tours, professional photoshoots, dates and even fancy stylised dinners with music and actors 🎭 📍 The Nicholas Palace, Saint-Petersburg #WeCreArtDaily

#WeCreArtMemes Me: I want a private house that looks like nothing else. Architect: Say no more! To tell you the truth, the initial plan of the customer was to construct a sturgeon house 🐟 however, the architect suggested an elephant house instead. Since 2009, it has been adorning Moscow Oblast. 🐘 Despite the extravagant look of the place, the owner doesn't appreciate too much of attention to him. Rumour has it that inside it is still not completed and can't be inhabited due to sewage problems and little natural lightning. A few years ago, there was an ad for this architectural marvel for sale. 📍 Ostretsy village, Moscow Oblast

Ты где? Я в Tepl’e 💛 In pursuit of happiness good food, we reached SPb, a city flooded with small cafes and bars famous for unique flavours and their laid-back vibe 🧘🏻‍♀️ It’s criminal not to eat out here, so for our breakfast we went to Teplo. Located in the cozy yard of the old mansion, it welcomes its guests with lots of greenery, garden swings, a playground, several tables for small and big gatherings, and even a chess field♟️The place was inspired by the dream about a big family house and it does look and feel like that there🏡 🇬🇧laid-back vibe — calm relaxed atmosphere P.S. If you want to get a place at the table outside, book in advance✔️ 📍Teplo Restaurant, Saint-Petersburg #EatPrayLove
