The man who was killed in the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump has been identified as Corey Comperatore, 50, a retired fire chief of Buffalo Township, PA. Comperatore was sitting behind Trump when shots were fired. He has been hailed as a hero by his daughter, who says that he shielded her and her mother with his body.

It is not clear at this time why the rooftop that the shooter was positioned on was not secured beforehand. The FBI has confirmed the identity of the shooter: Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, PA; as reported yesterday. Crooks was a registered Republican, however he has not had the chance to vote in a presidential election and he donated $15 to Act Blue, a Democrat-affiliated political action committee, when he was 17. A search of Crooks’ vehicle by law enforcement uncovered explosives of an unspecified type. The weapon he used in yesterday’s attack was an AR-15 variant and was legally purchased by his father. The Senate Homeland Security Committee has launched an investigation into the assassination attempt. House Republicans have asked Secret Service Director Kim Cheatle to testify to Congress.
